Violet's Rant: While You were Sleeping

Hey, it's me. I know you're sleeping but I have been trying to wake you. I get it, you come home from work tired and you really don't feel like listening to me but I feel like you're ignoring me. Yes, I feel like you neglect me a lot, too much really.
I know you hear me rambling on and on and you've slowly conditioned yourself to block me out. Yes, you keep assuming I am going to be here no matter what. But I keep telling you, I am leaving you and you keep thinking I won't go anywhere. I have been listening to others and the more they talk the more I keep slipping away from you. We've been through a lot together and we have fought battles and overcome them. Sometimes just barely but we did it!
Others have envied us, they thought we had it all and we did. We were stronger than anyone we encountered. But all those secrets, deceptions and manipulations, even letting those who weren't happy for us come between us Yes, they are tearing us apart. Please wake up and listen to me! I am trying to let you know we're in trouble. Everything we worked so hard to achieve over the years is falling by the wayside. Can't you see it too? Yes, I know you are working so hard to provide for the family and I commend you for that. So many aren't doing that anymore but that's not all I need from you. No, that's not all I need, I need your attention. I need you to love me and respect me the way you used to. Like you did.... before you got too busy for me.
I am still here, I haven't left you yet but I am telling you, I am slipping away and it's hard holding on. You used to go to church and worship but then sports started taking your attention off of what was really important on Sundays. I guess you couldn't see how it had been holding us together.
I get it..... this is the twenty first century and times have changed but how much do I mean to you? How much are we worth? Please wake up! I need you to take a stand for us, I need you to work with me to save us! I can't keep fighting for us alone. While you've been out drinking, I was slipping away and you failed to see something that really affected us. I want to tell you about it before it's too late. I'd like for you to see what's been happening to me and to us. I am tired and it's unfair of you to expect me to hold us together without your help.
Please open your eyes and listen to me! I am in danger! I am in danger of standing with you because I am fighting alone and it feels like I am standing alone anyway. Others keep saying this is all wrong and if you don't help me fight, you're going to lose me. Is that what you want? Aren't we worth more than that? Have you taken me for granted for so long that you just think I am going to be here regardless of how much you ignore me? Do you really think it's fair that I fight this battle without you? Don't you think I am getting tired too?

I get it...., you work all day.... you pay your taxes and you plan on retiring and then you'll have time to focus on this stuff but I am telling you, it may be too late for us. I need you now! I need you to stand up for me and announce we aren't going anywhere! Yes, tell them, we are strong and everything they used to envy about us, still IS. Please I need you to remove those things that are pulling us apart. I try to speak but everytime I do something stops me, and those things  that hinder me keep making it harder and harder to communicate. Can't you see what's happening to us? If you don't take time for me..., I hate to say it but you are going to lose me. We will be the laughing stock of our neighbors because they were always jealous of what we had and they wanted to see us fall apart anyway. They thought that ..... we thought we were better than them. They didn't understand we were just stronger than them. But....this is now and you're losing me.

Please wake up, our home is being invaded and I don't know how to protect us! I don't know if we will even be able to soon. Everything I have used to keep us strong is being taken from us. Doesn't it matter to you what's going to happen to our children if we don't come together? Do you think I can raise them properly without your involvement? They've been crying for your help, for your guidance and for anyone to listen to them! And you know what happens if you don't be the strong arm. You have to know that they'll look for someone else because that's just what children do.
I might ask you another time or two yes, I may ask for you to wake up again but you are not listening to me anyway and it seems the world is condemning all that we had and I can't fight this without you. Can't you see, if you don't wake up soon, when you do, I'll be gone? Try raising our children without a foundation, without values and morals, then tell me... What kind of unity will we have? What will they have?
I am so close to leaving you and yet you sleep.....my pleas are going unheard and slowly but surely I am slipping away from you and it will be because you chose to sleep instead of fight for me, for us. It's not too late .....yet.... But it won't be long now when you wake up and I will be gone. I will no longer stand for us because you ignored me when you had the chance to listen to me and fight for me.
In spite of this, I still try to fight but I am weak and without your support we won't make it through this.
United we will stand, Divided We will fall. Trust me I have seen it happen to others. And I am on my way out the door...... Unless you wake up and help save us.

With Love,
The United States of America

Is Our Constitution Outdated ? By; Sue Long

It has been said that our Constitution is no longer appropriate for today’s modern times. Indeed, Obama stated in his address to the United Nations, “We can no longer rely on a rulebook made a few centuries ago.” The reasoning is that new times call for new rules.

But what does “new” refer to here? Yes, obviously these are new times. But what are the proposed “new” rules? They are socialism and communism and the same old collectivist rationale that is as old as civilization itself. Considering the length of time that people have been on this earth, our Constitution is a newly developed concept.

Collectivism is the concept that individuals are subservient to the group; a group having no rights are thus subject to the dictates of the ruler(s). Individualism is just the opposite, where rights of the individual are recognized as being inherent, God-given, and not subject to being subverted: thus, Individual rights are not subject to destruction by ruler(s) edicts.

It was the principle of individualism, and the belief that the purpose of government is to protect our inherent rights, that gave birth to our Constitution. Other ruling documents spell out what government can do. Our Constitution spells out what government cannot do, thereby protecting people’s inherent rights from govern-mental rulings.

There have been attempts of such in the past, but they have been short-lived and/or limited. It wasn't until the birth of America that the principle was given full rein. The Founding Fathers studied history learning from past successes and downfalls, thus seeing the principles that work best for the good of mankind. The result is that we have become the envy of the world, exceeding any conditions elsewhere. Things that we consider to be necessities were unheard of in the past and are scarce commodities elsewhere today.

Consider: For thousands of centuries there have been people on this earth that are just as capable as the people living today. Yet, they lived in poverty. The life style of the royalty of the past doesn’t begin to compare with that of the poorest in America today. People throughout the world have just as much desire and ability to succeed and improve their lot as have the Americans, yet they are unable to do so. Thus, the masses have immigrated to America – or strive to.

America has been great not because of what government has done but because of what it has not done.

In America in recent times, momentum from the past has allowed a degree of prosperity to survive. But for how long? The assault by collectivists that has attacked America since its inception is taking its toll.

We have gone so far afield from the principles our Constitution was founded upon that many people have absolutely no conception of them or what our Constitution even says.

We have been the recipients of the most privileged life, one beyond the imagination of past times and the envy of the world today. Yet, we are throwing it away. Unless or until we once again embrace the principles embodied in individualism, and adhere to our Constitution, we will leave a very sad heritage to future generations.

IF we are not the home of the brave – we will no longer remain the land of the free.

Here’s What Inversions Are Costing Us

Seal of the United States Department of the Tr...

You don’t get to pick your tax rate. Neither

should corporations.

That’s why, earlier this week, the Treasury Department took initial steps to prevent U.S. corporations from using a tax maneuver to avoid paying taxes in America. This loophole -- known as an “inversion” -- lets a company avoid taxes by relocating their tax residence overseas while changing very little else about its operations or business.
And it’s costing Americans nearly $20 billion over the next decade -- critical dollars that could grow and expand the middle class.

What is the Real Deal About our Economy

By:  Sue Long

Do you have a problem

· when you call a tech or service department agent and can’t understand what they are saying?

· that your income is not keeping up with rising prices?

· with finding goods that have been made and packaged in America?

· although goods cost much more than in the past they are inferior in quality

and don’t last nearly as long?

The trade pact NAFTA has contributed to all of these things. Indeed, it has led to lower wages, job losses, outsourcing, and even a loss of American sovereignty. Trade pacts such as NAFTA are regional arrangements that are foreign governing bodies that take control over not just trade but also regulations that have nothing to do with trade. For example, the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) has only 5 chapters of the 29 that actually deal with trade.

Is there a precedent? The once sovereign nations in Europe joined the EU (European Union), having been sold on the premise that it would be good for their economy. History has proved otherwise. Today the EU rules supreme at the expense of the individual nation’s sovereignty and their economy is in dire condition – near collapse.

For more information, go to www.thenewamerican.com and type "trade pacts" in the search window.

We can prevent further damage to America by preventing more free trade pacts from being passed. The Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Transatlantic and Investment Partnership are on the launching pad. Our legislators are being lobbied for them now in anticipation of bringing them up for a vote at the most advantageous time – quite possibly during the upcoming lame duck session.

We need to get a commitment now from our legislators that they will vote against these pacts. You can help by contacting your legislators.

++++++++++++++++++++++

Here is a sample letter:

The TPP and TTIP agreements should be opposed because they are detrimental to our economy and would lead to the eventual economic and political integration of the United States with eleven or more Pacific Rim nations and the European Union (EU). The example of how 28 formerly independent European nations lost their national independence through a series of free trade agreements to the new supranational government, the EU, shows
how this would happen for the United States.

Will you commit to vote NO on all such free trade pacts as TPP & TTIP?

Sign it with your name and address

American Patriotism, Where Do You Stand?

If it be asked, What is the most sacred duty and the greatest source of our security in a Republic? The answer would be, An inviolable respect for the Constitution and Laws - the first growing out of the last. . . . A sacred respect for the constitutional law is the vital principle, the sustaining energy of a free government.

Alexander Hamilton:

The aim of every political constitution is, or ought to be, first to obtain for rulers men who possess most wisdom to discern, and most virture to pursue, the common good of the society; and in the next place, to take the most effectual precautions for keeping them virtuous whilst they continue to hold their public trust.

Alexander Hamilton and James Madison.

It is certainly true that a popular government cannot flourish without virtue in the people.

Richard Henry Lee.

It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is to-day, can guess what it will be to-morrow.

Alexander Hamilton and James Madison.

(Sounds altogether familiar.)

Law is defined to be a rule of action; but how can that be a rule, which is little known, and less fixed?

Alexander Hamilton and James Madison.

In Europe, charters of liberty have been granted by power. America has set the example . . . of charters of power granted by liberty. This revolution in the practice of the world, may, with an honest praise, be pronounced the most triumphant epoch of its history, and the most consoling presage of its happiness.

James Madison.

Do you stand with the founding fathers or do you stand with today's socialist's the few dictating the control of the masses where liberty is only a buzz word with no real meaning?   Are you for the new Pledge of Allegiance?

Help the UN? By Sue Long

FYI – In regards to John Bolton’s message below.

Although his call to defund UN’s anti US agenices is good as far as it goes, it falls short of the more commendable  Get US out of the UN.
ALL of the UN is anti US.  We should stop funding any part of it.  It was established for the express purpose of becoming an all powerful one world government controlled by the globalists.  When fully implemented it would be the end of American independence and sovereignty and  our constitution that acknowledges our God-given rights and government’s function to protect those rights.

Bolton’s rationale as to the anti American agencies “ they've inflicted severe damage to the United Nation's reputation and credibility”  is very telling as to his view of the UN.  This is saying that the UN has had and deserves a good reputation and credibility and that should not be impaired and, in fact, restored .

This is consistent with his  membership in the exclusive and extremely selective Council on Foreign Relations, an organization committed to the establishment of an all powerful one world government.

Since Bolton is fund raising and is flirting with making  a run for the presidency,  it is well to know just where he stands on the issues.

John Bolton PAC

Dear Sue,

As the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, my eyes have long been open to the dangerous biases and political agendas in play at the U.N. It is at the core of my mission to share these facts with the American people, and why I am writing today.

The United Nations has lost its way, and now we MUST take action.

In the midst of the current Hamas-Israel hostilities, and well before, U.N. institutions and agencies have behaved so outrageously that they've inflicted severe damage to the United Nation's reputation and credibility.

The bottom line is that the United States can no longer excuse or ignore the egregious anti-Israel bias we've seen out of U.N. institutions, period.

Will you sign our Petition to Defund Anti-U.S. Agencies at the United Nations, such as the Human Rights Council? By following this link, you can help me urge Congress to immediately withdraw funding from the flawed and failed Human Rights Council and STOP funding other biased U.N. agencies.

Then, to help me share this message and grow momentum behind this effort, will you stand with John Bolton PAC with a $100, $50, or $25 emergency contribution?

The High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, has repeatedly accused Israel of war crimes, and accused America by association.

This blatant pro-Hamas propaganda, eagerly accepted and repeated in many circles, is intellectually bankrupt and truly dangerous. Israel MUST act to protect its border and people from Hamas terrorists, associated jihadist groups and their rogue-state backers operating out of the Gaza Strip.

And America MUST stand with Israel.

I URGE you to sign our John Bolton PAC Petition to defund several of the worst Anti-U.S. Agencies at the United Nations today by following this link.

The outrageous rhetoric and actions against Israel and our nation certainly don't stop with the High Commissioner.

On July 23, the Human Right Council (HRC) voted to conduct yet another inquiry into Israel's struggle against Hamas terrorism. This inquiry cost more than $2.3 million, of which the United States will pay 22 percent, and in the end, ONLY the United States voted against the loaded resolution. Incidentally, we can thank Obama for the mistake of joining this misbegotten body, which replaced the shameful Human Right Commission in 2006.

Then there is the U.N. Relief and Works Administration (UNRWA). Three times in late July, UNRWA was forced to admit publicly that it "discovered" stockpiles of Hamas rockets stored in UNRWA's Gaza schools.

Why didn't UNRWA stop Hamas from stockpiling missiles in its schools, or at least immediately report this ploy to the U.N. Security Council?

Unfortunately, we know Obama will not act to disassociate the United States from this unacceptable international conduct regarding Gaza and Israel. That's why we're urging Congress to investigate IMMEDIATELY and take action.

Will you add your name to the Petition to Defund Anti-U.S. Agencies at the United Nations today to urge Congress to withdraw from the Human Rights Council and STOP funding other biased U.N. agencies?

And will you consider supporting this historic effort with a $100, $50, or $25 emergency contribution, or any amount you'd like, by following this secure link?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this important message today. Our nation's future depends on the success of our movement to restore its greatness.

For America,

John Bolton
Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations

The White House New Commitments to Improve College Opportunity

By Cecilia Muñoz

Last January, I listened to the President ask hundreds of college presidents to increase college opportunity for all Americans. He asked them to help because a college degree remains one of the surest pathways into the middle class in America, and is an especially powerful engine of social and economic mobility.

Over this decade, nearly 8 in 10 new jobs will require some postsecondary education or training beyond high school. And of the 30 fastest-growing occupations, half require a college degree. At the same time, college graduates earn an average of 77 percent more per hour than a high school graduate. President Obama set forth a goal early in his first term to guide our work in education -- to lead the world with the highest proportion of college graduates by 2020.

And yesterday, I had the privilege of joining Secretary Duncan in meeting with community college leaders who have made new commitments to ensure student success, because, in order to make progress on our goal to be first in the world, we need to address some of the foundational challenges to college enrollment, persistence, and completion.

Our nation's community colleges are the engines of our higher education system. As the largest part of America's higher education system, these institutions provide the education and training to prepare our 21st-century workforce and are an ideal place to raise the knowledge and skills of our workforce -- and to meet the academic needs of a diverse population of learners, from recent high school graduates to adults seeking new skills.

Following yesterday's meeting, today we are announcing several developments in our efforts to expand college opportunity for America's students.

  • The White House announces second College Opportunity Summit: The Administration is announcing that the White House will host another College Opportunity Summit on December 4, 2014. The goal of this conference will build on the work launched in the first College Opportunity Summit last January, while launching initiatives in new areas. This year’s summit will focus on building sustainable collaborations in communities with strong K-12 and higher education partnerships to encourage college going, and supporting colleges to work together to dramatically improve persistence and increase college completion, especially for first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students.
  • New community college partners working to expand college opportunity:The Administration is announcing 14 new commitments by community colleges to expand college opportunity by strengthening college readiness for academically underprepared students, building on the more than 100 colleges and universities and 40 nonprofit organizations who made commitments in January.
  • New commitments from the field to strengthen college readiness: The Department of Education’s Institute for Education Studies (IES) is launching a new Center for the Analysis of Postsecondary Readiness (CAPR) led by the Community College Research Center (CCRC) at Teachers College, Columbia University and the social policy research organization MDRC that will work to strengthen the research, evaluation, and support of college-readiness efforts across the nation. In addition, Khan Academy is announcing new commitments that will focus on technology-based solutions customized to improve student success in developmental math. Lastly, the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation will commit $5 million, partnering with MDRC, the Ohio Board of Regents, and City University of New York (CUNY) to replicate CUNY’s successful Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) to support as many as 2,000 community college students in Ohio to help more students graduate sooner.
  • Continued progress on ongoing college opportunity commitments: In addition to new commitments, we continue to make progress on our previously announced efforts to expand access to college for all students, including efforts to improve the effectiveness of college advising and enhance support for school counselors, and increasing efforts to boost student achievement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to broaden participation in STEM fields to women, underrepresented groups, and students from low-income or underserved communities.
These efforts have inspired engagement and supported the progress of education leaders who are taking collective action in their schools, on college campuses, and in their communities to do all they can to help more low-income students prepare to enter and succeed in college.

Excerpts taken from Common Core: A Scheme to Rewrite Education by Alex Newman

If something doesn't change, most American K-12 school children will be taught using dubious, federally backed national education “standards” commonly called Common Core. Even though it is being sold as “excellence in education,”
“raising the bar,” and getting America’s children “ready for the workforce” it is designed for just the opposite. Education and policy experts have blasted the standards themselves, the centralization and federalization of schooling, the long-term agenda behind the plan, and the nefarious tactics used to advance it.

The scheme is being foisted on state governments all across the country with a combination of taxpayer-funded bribes, outright deception, and federal bludgeoning. With the federal government handing out massive grants only to state governments that comply, some 45 states and Washington, D.C. have already signed up, and the others, which includes Virginia, are flirting with various elements of the scheme.

Even Virginia and home-schoolers and private schools — may find themselves ensnared in the program due to national testing, college admission requirements, and more.

Among the most common criticisms levelled at the English and Language Arts Common Core standards is the emphasis on reading dry, technical writing as opposed to literary classics. And, even the classics have been replaced with books promoting a socialist agenda. It will leave students unable to think for themselves.

Opponents have been quick to lambaste the guidelines, and standards do not compare well with existing standards, forcing existing standards to be watered down. Core Mathematics Standards are written to reflect very low expectations. As for history, there is nothing in Common Core about being able to explain why America fought for independence from Britain, or how the Constitution fulfils the ideal outlined in the Declaration of Independence of protecting God-given rights. And for science, it will force students to learn a steady stream of controversial propaganda on everything from the theory of evolution to largely debunked theories advanced by UN global-warming alarmists about supposed human impacts on “climate change.

Common Core is copyrighted and cannot be altered by anyone other than the owners of the copyright. As such, any special interest group that finds favour with those in charge will be able to gain instant access to America’s students.

Concerned parents, meanwhile, will be left with few-to-no options to prevent it.

Common Core is an agenda to essentially brainwash students. Much of the agenda involves what is euphemistically referred to as preparing students to live in a “global community.” Aside from the blatant propaganda and the obvious political agenda in the standards, however, the real problem is in the centralization. Even if the standards were radically revised to be better, or had been devised by people with whom one may agree with politically, they can always be changed. Government should not have such power in the first place. There is nothing in the Constitution authorizing it.

Totalitarian leaders from Hitler to Stalin and everywhere in between have always sought to centralize and control education. The reason is simple: Whoever molds the minds of the youth can eventually dominate the population, even if it takes a generation or two. That is why tyrants in recent centuries have demanded compulsory, government-led education.

Hitler made clear that he wanted to use “education” as a tool to mold German children in accordance with the National Socialist regime’s despotic and murderous ideology. So did Stalin, and numerous other infamous tyrants and mass murderers.

As Karl Marx noted in his Communist Manifesto, government-controlled schooling is essential to achieving the goals of socialism.

Common Core is actually a step toward achieving a long time goal of the United Nations and its supporters: a one-world education system. The UN, has long sought to harmonize global educational standards. The goal is not education but the production of compliant, dependent, uneducated citizens. This is the citizenry needed to implement the United Nation’s

Agenda 21 with the help of UNESCO’s Education for All program. Not surprisingly, Common Core and Education for All are very similar because Bill Gates has been involved with both and is a proponent of UN-directed education.”

Without a significant change in course, it is only a matter of time before the nationalized education scheme ensnares virtually every student in America. Home schoolers, private-schooled children, and even kids in states that have refused to
participate will likely all be impacted by the standards, sometimes without even being aware of it. Consider, for example, the rush by virtually all major publishers to align their textbooks with Common Core. Even students here in Virginia may ultimately be forced to learn from the same set of standards.

But, people are starting to wake up. On the Left and on the Right, criticism of Common Core standards, methods, and the entire agenda continues to grow louder and louder. From the libertarian-leaning Cato Institute to the establishment’s
liberal-oriented Brookings Institution, the scheme is coming under assault. Increasing numbers of teachers, experts, and more are speaking out, too.
