A jogger was arrested for jaywalking in Austin, Texas after she was unable to present any identification to the police. Austin's police chief responded to the incident by saying that the woman should be happy the police didn't do something more severe to her like sexually assault her as cops in other cities do. "A corruption probe in a small California town has resulted in the arrests of four current and former police officers for stealing impounded cars belonging to mostly poor Latino drivers, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Those arrested on Tuesday in the agricultural town of King City included interim Police Chief Bruce Miller and his brother Brian Miller, who owns a towing company, said Monterey County Chief Assistant District Attorney Terry Spitz.

"The victims were economically disadvantaged persons of Hispanic descent who were targeted by having their vehicles impounded, towed and stored by Miller's Tow," Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo said in a statement. "The vehicle owners were unable to pay the fees and the vehicles were sold or provided for free to some of the officers.""* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

ABINGDON — A police chief in southwestern Virginia has been charged with drug distribution.

Marion Police Chief Michael Dean Roberts was arrested this morning on one count of distribution of a controlled substance. An affidavit filed by a federal agent in U.S. District Court in Abingdon accuses the 54-year-old Saltville resident of selling the prescription painkiller Lortab to a cooperating witness.
Court records do not list an attorney for Roberts, and no hearing date has been scheduled.
Roberts did not immediately respond to telephone and email messages seeking comment.

Can we trust those who have been sworn to protect us anymore?  It looks like we need new standards.
