Governor McAuliffe Kicks off Open Enrollment

Governor Terry McAuliffe kicked off this year’s open enrollment for the Federal Marketplace, promising to take an aggressive role in helping eligible Virginians sign up for high-quality, affordable health insurance.

“Quality and affordable health care is a basic necessity for healthy families and a strong economy,”Governor McAuliffe said during a press conference at the Vernon J. Harris Medical and Dental Center in Richmond. My goal is to enroll up to 160,000 Virginians in affordable health coverage between now and February 15. I want to make sure all Virginians who want help can get the in-person assistance they need to choose the right plans for themselves and their families.”

Open enrollment on the Federal Marketplace this year runs from November 15 through February 15. Last year, 216,000 Virginians went online and purchased health plans at healthcare.gov. Another 300,000 state residents qualify for tax credits on the Marketplace but remain uninsured.

Virginia was awarded a $9.3 million federal grant to fund more than 100 enrollment assisters across the Commonwealth. Those assisters are being hired through the Virginia Community Healthcare Association’s member health centers and the Virginia Poverty Law Center through its Enroll Virginia initiative, as well as other community partners.

“Virginia’s federally qualified health centers and the Virginia Poverty Law Center have long been valuable partners with state leaders in improving health care for Virginians,” said Dr. Bill Hazel, Secretary of Health and Human Resources. “I look forward to building on this great collaborative relationship. Together we will improve thousands of lives across the Commonwealth.”

A separate $4.3 million federal grant is funding additional outreach and educational activities, as well as a major media campaign this winter.

Radio, bus and digital ads will begin in December. Television ads promoting health coverage will begin airing in January.

On Thursday, Governor McAuliffe unveiled an improved, more user-friendly website atcoverva.org, which will guide qualified individuals to healthcare.gov to enroll in insurance plans and educate them about their options. The new website will launch on Saturday, the first day of the open enrollment period for the Federal Marketplace, and is operated by the Department of Medical Assistance Services. A related Facebook page and Twitter account, @coverva, are already in operation.

One of the new features on the website will help individuals find assisters located in their communities or nearby.

The website also will assist individuals who qualify for Medicaid and the Family Access to Medical Insurance Security, or FAMIS, Virginia’s insurance program for children. DMAS also has opened a new processing center to make sure applications for people eligible for Medicaid and FAMIS are processed efficiently.

Our view: Hiding in plain sight The Roanoke Times Editorial Board

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (Me...

More often than not, that missing item you've turned the house upside down to find - reading glasses or car keys, for example - ends up being right in front of you.
That should be a lesson to Gov. McAuliffe and House leaders in their search for an elusive solution to the current budget stalemate.
McAuliffe wants to expand Medicaid, the government funded program providing health insurance to the indigent, to cover low-income adults.
House leaders object but have devoted all their time to nitpicking the governor's plan rather than coming up with their own.
Senators have helpfully offered a rational compromise. Marketplace Virginia would allow uninsured individuals to purchase private insurance using federal funds available from taxes already being collected on state residents and businesses. Participants would be required to share in the costs. The program offers relief to hospitals facing steep cuts under the Affordable Care Act, which rolls back charitable care assistance under the assumption that more patients will be insured.
It's a middle-ground, business-oriented idea that should be an easy decision. But instead, legislators swept into Capitol Square last week, spouted off a lot of partisan blabber then headed home, leaving the negotiating table vacant.
House leaders say they're loath to use federal dollars, which would initially pay 100 percent of costs and 90 percent in future years, out of fear that national leaders might one day renege.
But that argument makes little sense given their use of $195 million in federal funding from other parts of the Affordable Care Act to balance their own budget proposal for the current year, plus another $51 million for the new two-year spending plan they endorsed. Indeed, they rely on a total of more than $20 billion in federal funds, nearly a quarter of their entire budget plan.
McAuliffe's proposal to expand Medicaid coverage in a two-year pilot program has generated some confusion given his previous support for the Marketplace Virginia model. It's hard to determine whether he's helped or harmed the process given the reality that absolutely nothing has happened in weeks.
His proposal doesn't rule out the private-option favored by the Senate. Rather it could serve as a temporary means for Virginia to qualify for federal funding while hammering out the particulars for the private insurance model. Doing so would free up $225 million in state tax revenues, some of which could be used for mental health reforms, teacher pay, pre-kindergarten and extended school year programs, and stabilization of the state's pension fund.
But the best choice for state leaders still rests with the Marketplace Virginia approach. If House leaders can't stomach adding more people to the Medicaid rolls, despite the fact that they've added thousands of intellectually disabled individuals to the program in recent years, then they should focus on digesting the Senate proposal. Once they've decided what they like and dislike about the idea, they can hash out the details with senators who would welcome that conversation.
In January, Speaker Bill Howell penned a commentary calling for an "alternative approach" to expanding Medicaid. Nearly three months later, he has yet to offer any alternative of his own. Meanwhile, the Marketplace Virginia plan sits untouched, waiting for someone to show up at the negotiating table. Like a misplaced pair of glasses, it's in plain sight. State leaders are just pretending not to see it.

Who's Defending The Billionaire Brothers Buying Our Democracy?

English: Depiction of the House vote on H.R. 3590 (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) on March 21, 2010, by congressional district. Democratic yea Democratic nay Republican nay No representative seated (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

*Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stepped up his war of rhetoric against conservative billionaires and liberal boogymen Koch brothers Tuesday, saying on the senate floor that his Republican colleagues were "addicted to Koch" Reid's play on words — Charles and David Koch share a homophonous name with a recreational drug — came less than a week after Reid called the brothers "un-American" for funding anti-Obamacare attack ads...* How did Fox News pundits and Republican politicians respond? The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Our Notes:  We follow neither the left or the right.  We are not about Democrats or Republicans.  We do not see any political party in the USA viable anymore and the above is part of the reason why.  Both sides are corrupt and play a show for us all.  It's all fascism disguising itself as something other than what it really is from both sides.  Communism is the same.  Liberalism is little different these days.  There are no sound party politics anymore.  Both sides can be viewed as right and wrong.  Therefore, each side can always claim victory and be right, yet still be challenged as being wrong.  It's a game.  It's played very well.  Only issue is that "WE THE PEOPLE", are the ones who end up holding the bag and being blamed in THEIR game.

Growing Issues With Obamacare: People Are Not Getting Treatment Under New System

I was diagnosed with CVID nearly 2 1/2 years ago. I have been successfully getting treatment until November of this past year. I was getting a medication delivered via a pump once or twice a week to help give me antibodies to fight infection. While the treatment is inconvenient, it does help me to function normally as a middle school teacher. When on the medication, I have energy, drive, and am willing to take on a lot. I also get sick less often when on treatment. Without treatment, my numbers slowly drop and my body stops responding to illness and is overtaken by it. My moods change, my memory is affected, I get a lot of symptoms of arthritis, and I cannot sleep (even while exhausted).

With this new policy by BCBSIL (an insurance company), BCBSIL is allowed to determine who receives treatment instead of doctors who actually see the patients. Very few people who have CVID now qualify based on the new numbers (which would require the patients to be near-death and gravely ill).

According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, stopping a patient from treatment on a difinitively diagnosed patient to run a trial for four months is medical malpractice. Furthermore, the AAAAI also states that IGG trough levels (the numbers that BCBSIL goes off of) fluctuate and should not be used as the sole determination for diagnosis. There are many things that need to be taken into consideration and no two CVID patients are alike. Some people have "normal" trough levels, others are incredibly low. Both groups respond well to IVIG/SUBQ treatment. I meet every other condition/category.

That said, it is important for people like me to receive the medication that I require to keep me healthy. If caught early and if treated, I can live a normal life span. An insurance company cannot deny a diabetic insulin, so why should an insurance company be allowed to deny those with an immune deficiency life sustaining treatment? It is appalling.

Once diagnosed, it is the job of the insurance company to provide treatment. End of story. No one should have to re-qualify for coverage by going off of treatment for 4 months and retesting (meaning that I will only receive treatment 8 mos out of the year IF I qualify after the 4 mos of NO treatment). It should be my doctor's decision, not BCBSIL's decision. Please sign this petition to help get this policy changed.

Our Notes:  We have been seeing a lot of reports coming in like this one above from all across the nation.  People everywhere are loosing their meds and treatments under the Obamacare program.  A program we have been told that was supposed to make health care more affordable for everyone?  A program we were told was supposed to take care of more people, not less.  These types of reports are coming into us from all around the nation almost daily.  These are the ones being reported.  Chances are very high that these reports represent less than one percent of total actual complaints.

In our own opinion, this program needs to be seriously overhauled already to say the least and we do mean to say the least.

Is Obamacare REALLY killing 2M jobs?

CNN's Anderson Cooper examines claims by Republicans that Obamacare would result in the loss of two million jobs.

You know you just have to love a spin story on a spin story.  How do you discredit the opposition?  You accuse them of something.  Anything.  If you listen to this report very carefully, you quickly realize that the CNN spin story is nothing more than spin itself and that digging deeper into their own words, Obamacare is in fact ruining millions of jobs.   But not to worry.  CNN is here to tell you what you need to think.  Oh thank heaven for CNN telling us all how to think so we do not have to do that ourselves.

Senator Ron Johnson Suing Obama

The Washington political class is well aware of what we all know to be certain: that ObamaCare is an unmitigated disaster.
The Democrat Members of Congress and staffers who wrote the 1,600 page monstrosity knew it would increase premiums and restrict individual choice. But the last thing President Obama wanted was to have the very Democrat congressmen and senators who passed ObamaCare to revolt on his signature legislation.
So what did he do? Obama directed the Office of Personnel Management to create a special exemption so Democrat Members of Congress and their staff could continue to receive federal contributions to their health plans.
That's right: President Obama issued an order to direct taxpayer funds to shield Democrat Members of Congress from the harmful effects of the very law they passed.
This is not only wrong -- but I also believe it's illegal. And, worse, it's indicative of the continued abuse of power and flagrant disregard of the Constitution by this President.
That's why I've decided to file a lawsuit against the Obama Administration.
It's crucial we stop Obama's rule by Presidential decree. It's critical that the law is applied equally to the political class.
If they don't like the law, then the Washington elite should be forced to pass another law to change it - or, preferably, repeal the whole thing.
Help me put pressure on Washington liberals and the Obama Administration to stop this special treatment for politicians.

Here is the bottom line that no one is even talking about.  Obamacare was designed to fail from the outset.  It does not include alternative medicine to compete against mainstream medicine which would give citizens the right to choose the form of health care you would prefer.  You are not offered any choices.  You get what you are given and anything else is off limits unless you want to pay for it yourself which may just become illegal for you to do.  That is a major crime in our view.   It destroys competition and alternative choices.  It cuts out what may just save lives.  Where are the liberals on this?  Not a peep.  Where are the conservatives on this?  Also no peeps.  Instead the politicians are just destroying your ability to have real choices in health care and making sure you pay a fortune for this tremendous lack of choices and lack of respect.  Fire them all.  And this guy is complaining about taxpayer funding for democrats?  Please, that's only a small issue when you look at the overall bigger picture.
