Courthouse Family Medicine Opens in Gloucester
Despite national healthcare trends, independent practice to focus on spending more time with patients, not less
Richmond, Va. (May 15, 2013) - Courthouse Family Medicine celebrated its grand opening today with a ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the new facility. Located in the Edgehill Town Center in Gloucester Courthouse, the new independent family medicine practice will provide a patient-centered medical home to patients from Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex and King and Queen counties.
Founded by Ferry Creek resident Joseph A. Leming, M.D., FAAFP (Dr. Joe) and his wife Vickie L. Bell Leming, NP-C, Courthouse Family Medicine is based on the Ideal (Medical) Practice Model. The decision to remain independent means practitioners will be able to spend more time with each patient without care being dictated by a large hospital or healthcare system.
"Our primary focus in on the physician-patient relationship. Care will be driven by the patient's needs, goals and values, with the majority of the office visit spent with the physician," said Dr. Leming. "Our proactive approach to managing our patient’s health means patients see their primary care provider at every visit; spend less time in waiting rooms and more time getting the comprehensive, quality care they deserve."
Offering primary care, including adolescent and geriatric care as well as women's care, the practice will focus on wellness, patient education, disease recognition, chronic disease management and coordination of care with specialty providers as well as urgent care. The care team will use technology to its fullest, including electronic health records, email and the Internet. Dr. Leming will make house calls by special arrangement, and visit patients in the hospital although he won’t be replacing the job of the hospitalist.
Dr. Leming is the son of Maria Atkins Leming of Freewelcome Farm located on the Piankatank in Dutton. Mrs. Leming (Ms. Vickie) is the Daughter of Dewey "Doc" Bell, DDS of Piney Point located on Ferry Creek in Dutton. They attend and were wed at the Ware Episcopal Church, and reside at Windward located on Ferry Creek in Dutton.
