RICHMOND – Due to the success of the #100Kids100Days campaign, Governor Bob McDonnell is launching a new social media effort aimed at increasing support for adoption in Virginia.  The new campaign, #IHeartAdoption, will feature photos of adoption supporters telling Virginia why they support adoption.

To participate, Virginians should print out the template, fill in why they support adoption and email a JPEG photo toVAdopts@governor.virginia.gov.  People can also participate by posting their photo to Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #IHeartAdoption.  Submissions could be included on the Virginia Adopts website, Facebook, Twitter or other promotional material.  Click here to download the template.

Speaking about the new social media campaign, Governor McDonnell commented, “Facebook and Twitter have been an integral part of getting the word out about our Virginia Adopts initiative.  We saw enormous success on social media with #100Kids100Days, including kids being matched because of the awareness raised through the #100Kids100Days campaign.  Through #IHeartAdoption we hope to bring even greater awareness to the 1,000 kids in foster care today in Virginia that need a forever home.  Today we are launching our new social media campaign, #IHeartAdoption, to encourage all Virginians to join us in sharing with their friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter why they support adoption.”

Bacon and Cabbage Soup - Recipe of the Day

English: Polish Potato Soup

A cooked rasher. Raw bacon rashers are an essential ingredient of coddle. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
When it happens that you have a dinner consisting of bacon and cabbages, you invariably throw away the liquor in which they have been boiled, or, at the best, give it to the pigs, if you possess any; this is wrong, for it is easy to turn it to a better account for your own use, by paying attention to the following instructions, viz.:—Put your piece of bacon on to boil in a pot with two gallons (more or less, according to the number you have to provide for) of water, when it has boiled up, and has been well skimmed, add the cabbages, kale, greens, or sprouts, whichever may be used, well washed and split down, and also some parsnips and carrots; season with pepper, but no salt, as the bacon will season the soup sufficiently; and when the whole has boiled together very gently for about two hours, take up the bacon surrounded with the cabbage, parsnips, and carrots, leaving a small portion of the vegetables in the soup, and pour this into a large bowl containing slices of bread; eat the soup first, and make it a rule that those who eat most soup are entitled to the largest share of bacon.

The above recipe comes from a very old cookbook.  A bit of history for the cooking world.

Terry McAuliffe Ad: Twisting Facts Retwisted

Because we have to put up with all the crap these two are throwing at each other, we are throwing it back at them everyday.

Now let's see if we have this straight.  Terry said that Ken believes in the Bible and is pro family making Terry anti family?  Ken showed Terry telling us that coal is evil.  If we want electricity in the future maybe we should rub two sticks together?  Brilliant.  Or maybe Terry thinks we should just import our electricity from China?  Now if Ken lied about Terry's involvement with that one company, maybe Terry should sue Ken for liable?  Ya think?  So why isn't he?  Is it that maybe the dates in question for the stock owned were at a time when Terry owned very little after selling off a huge amount?

Too many issues not being answered.  Let's wag the dog.

Congressman Rob Wittman - News Updates

English:
English: (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

June 05, 2013

Respect for military tradition and public service was evident all over Virginia’s First District last weekend. I was pleased to gather with so many of you to commemorate Memorial Day and to honor the memory of the many Americans who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this nation. At Memorial Day events in both Williamsburg and Yorktown, I heard so many inspiring stories of phenomenal American heroes. We must never fail to honor their service, and we must never take their sacrifice for granted. To the men and women of our armed forces, both past and present, and to your families – thank you for all that you’ve done for this great nation.

On Tuesday, I was pleased to spend time with a fantastic group of veterans in Dale City. The Prince William Chamber of Commerce Veterans Council hosted Delegate Rich Anderson and me at an event to discuss the important issues facing our Commonwealth and nation. Some of these issues will be coming up soon in consideration of the annual National Defense Authorization Act. Del. Anderson and I served together in the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech, and I was pleased to be with him and with the many dedicated patriots in attendance. Being able to take questions and clarify my views on various subjects is always important, but I particularly value the opportunity to hear specific ideas and opinions from citizens. That’s why I meet frequently with constituents in my district offices and visit so many workplaces and organizations across the district. That’s also why I drive home to the Northern Neck each night, even when Congress is in session. The best ideas to address our nation’s challenges come from places like Yorktown, Tappahannock, and Fredericksburg – not Washington.

Another great discussion this past week came at the Quantico/Belvoir Regional Business Alliance’s quarterly luncheon in Woodbridge. This region of the First District has seen significant growth in recent years, and this was a tremendous opportunity for me to discuss some of what’s going on in Congress now and to answer questions regarding the way these potential policies can affect folks and small businesses in the First District. The recent, across-the-board budget cuts, known as sequestration, are of particular concern to folks in this area, and I stressed to the group my continued resolve to replace these cuts with more responsible, commonsense solutions.

Finally, I was honored this week to attend a government class at Kettle Run High School in Nokesville. I am always inspired by the optimism and civic engagement of our youth, and I enjoyed speaking with these talented students about my own background and about how issues being addressed in Congress today will reverberate for years to come. This generation has the enthusiasm and intelligence to take our nation to new heights, and I will continue each day to pursue policies in Washington that strengthen and enhance the opportunity that America offers.

The main streets of Virginia’s First District are full of ideas to get our economy back on track, and your feedback is so important to me as I serve you. I can be reached by telephone at (202) 225-4261, through my website (www.wittman.house.gov), on Facebook (www.facebook.com/reprobwittman), and via Twitter (www.twitter.com/robwittman).

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee where he is the Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.

Secret Service Arrests Charlotte Man For Twitter Death Threats Against Barack Obama

SEPTEMBER 6--A North Carolina man was arrested yesterday for threatening to kill President Barack Obama in a series of Twitter messages, one of which warned that, “Ima hit president Obama with that Lee Harvey Oswald swag,” The Smoking Gun has learned.
Donte Jamar Sims, 21, is charged in a felony criminal complaint accusing him of threatening the president’s life in five tweets published September 3. Sims, pictured in the adjacent mug shot, is locked up in advance of a federal detention hearing scheduled for next Tuesday.
In an interview with Secret Service agents yesterday at his Charlotte home, Sims admitted to posting the threats because “he hated President Obama,” according to a U.S. District Court filing. While Sims “asserted he was high on marijuana when he made the threats,” he acknowledged that he “understood what he was doing and that it was wrong,” investigators reported.

Sims’s tweets, which were discovered by a Secret Service intelligence specialist, were published over a 15-minute period early Monday morning. One post warned that, “Well Ima Assassinate president Obama this evening !...Gotta get this monkey off my chest while he's in town -_-.” Another message claimed that the Secret Service “is gonna be defenseless once I aim the Assault Rifle at Barack’s Forehead… F* the #DNC.”

Ever wonder if some of the most popular people are really as popular as they seem to be?  Is it possible that maybe, just maybe they are not as popular as they would have you believe?  Take a look at this one site that has uncovered fake and inactive followers for some of Twitter's most popular people. Is Lady Gaga nearly as popular as she looks?  No.  47% of her listed following is fake and another 30% is inactive out of 28,445,916 followers.  That;s more than 75% of her listed following.  She still has a very impressive number of real followers, but no where near what is being shown.

Rihanna's numbers are even worse.  With a following of 23,314,400 followers, 48% are fake and another 36% are inactive leaving only 16% actively following her.  Again, the real number is still impressive, but over 84% of her following does not exist.

CLICK HERE to see more percentages on other people and how this has all been calculated.

Is there some company out there that sells fake followers for Twitter?  Buy 1,000 followers on Twitter for only $99.00?  Special for this week only?  Get 100,000 followers for a mere $1,300.00?  Surprise your friends.  Well we have not found a pay for network yet, but we have found a free network that promises to help you grow your following and Lady Gaga is on the list.

Grow your network on Twiends.  Sign in with your Twitter account and from your Facebook account.  Get more followers by adding your account by country and by interests.  Could this be where the fake followers or the drop outs come from?  Hard to say.  Guess it only goes to show, not everything is what it may seem.
