Abingdon Elementary School Violating Privacy Rights?

Recently it has come to our attention that the Abingdon Elementary School, located right here in Gloucester County is possibly violating the rights of parents of students. Read the story HERE. It isn't unusual for either the government or government controlled entities to request their way into violating your rights, as long as you allow this to happen and you are willing to give up your rights, that's on you. It's when you stand up for your rights and they continue to pry that the line gets stepped over. Abingdon Elementary School and the student services board seems to have a habit of stepping over that line. We highly caution local residents to question this school when they are requesting information, as they may just be asking for your permission to violate your rights. We do not recommend you allow this.

DAV, CHKD Thrift Store Rip Offs

It's a shame when thrift stores get all their merchandise through donations and then mark prices on the used merchandise so high, that often times it is priced higher than what one could buy the same item for new. This is one of many complaints being heard from many shoppers of our local thrift stores. Another complaint that is very common is when these same thrift stores get in used electronics and sell them as is with a fairly good idea or knowing full well that the item does not work or work properly.

The idea behind a thrift store is to sell donated items at reasonable prices allowing the store to make money to help fund the charity behind the store. Not try and sell merchandise for as much as one thinks they can get for an item which like stated above, is often close to the retail price of a new item or even more than what a new item would cost.

In the case of the D.A.V., on their own web site, they admit that they are known for over pricing their merchandise. Click Here to visit their web page on the pricing of their merchandise. It is softly stated that if the price is to high, wait for it to come down. Well that's most of the pricing in the thrift stores these days. It's no wonder more people are now shopping at the local flea market, better prices on merchandise are found there as opposed to the local thrift stores. If you are looking for a decent bargain these days, stick to the Laural shelter or the local flea market. Maybe this will send the right message to those behind the high pricing of merchandise in the other thrift stores.

So rush out now and buy your very own dirt mound home. By the Mobjack contracting team. This post is a spoof on the commercial site.

Rosewell Ruins Picture Slideshow

We recently had a chance to photograph The Rosewell Ruins here in Gloucester County. At one time one of the most prominent houses in Virginia, where George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both spent time at this house and walking these grounds. In the not to distant past, this was a local favorite party place. We have heard word that the grounds are still haunted and that this even made one of the national ghost hunter shows on TV. Well I didn't see or hear any ghosts while I was there, I would have enjoyed talking to Thomas Jefferson though if he were still making appearances. This slide show is 140 pictures long and will take some time to get through. We are donating these pictures back to the folks who now run and maintain the ruins and we hope they put them to some good use.

Help The Homeless Web Site

A short time ago we reported about a new organization here in Gloucester County called Help The Homeless of Gloucester, Virginia. There web site is now under construction and can be seen in it's early stages by clicking here. It will probably be a few more weeks before the site is fully up and running on it's own, but for now, we have their link covered. This is a very worthy cause that everyone in Gloucester County should get behind. In fact, it's a worthy cause for the entire state to get behind. We here this will soon be going to the papers and the news media and reaching our political leaders very soon.

So step up everyone and Help The Homeless in our own community first.
