Governor McAuliffe Announces Third Microsoft Expansion in Mecklenburg County

~ Company to invest $346.7 million and create 90 new jobs~

RICHMOND - Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that Microsoft Corp. will invest $346.7 million to expand its data center site in Mecklenburg County and increase capacity to serve its growing customer base. Virginia successfully competed against other sites in the U.S. for the project, which will create 90 new jobs. Microsoft’s original project in 2010 involved an investment of up to $499 million and 50 new jobs. In 2011 the company invested an additional $150 million to expand the site, and in 2013 announced a $348 million expansion.

Speaking about today’s announcement, Governor McAuliffe said, “Microsoft’s data center campus in Mecklenburg County continues to represent transformational growth, opportunity, and investment for the region and for Virginia. The third expansion project brings the company’s total capital investment to more than $1.3 billion since 2010. Microsoft’s success and continued investment is a powerful testament to the benefits of doing business in Virginia and the thriving data center industry in the Commonwealth.”

“Microsoft has played an important role in the success of Mecklenburg County and Southern Virginia since the establishment of its data center site in 2010,” said Maurice Jones, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade. “The company continues to grow its operation, and this significant expansion is another example of state partners working together to meet a corporation’s needs within a short timeframe. As Microsoft’s customer base expands, we remain ready to help facilitate its success any way we can. We thank the company for its continued commitment and investment in Virginia.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Mecklenburg County to secure the project for Virginia. Dominion Virginia Power, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation also were instrumental in securing this project. Governor McAuliffe approved a $1.6 million grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Mecklenburg County with the project. The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $1.6 million in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds for the project.

“Mecklenburg County is again very pleased to announce another expansion of Microsoft,” said Glenn Barbour, Chairman of the Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors. “Our County Administrator Wayne Carter has been working closely with the company to offer all the assistance our county could provide. This expansion opens up many more opportunities for our county to offer jobs to our citizens and greatly expand our economic base. I encourage our citizens to pursue these opportunities. Governor McAuliffe Announces 110 New Jobs for Charlotte County

RICHMOND - Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that The Corsi Group, a leading manufacturer of custom and semi-custom cabinetry, will invest approximately $5 million to establish its first Virginia manufacturing operation in Charlotte County. Virginia successfully competed against Kentucky for the project, which will create 110 new jobs.

This new manufacturing operation will complement the existing industry base in Southern Virginia well, and we look forward to the mutual benefit and success for Charlotte County and Corsi.”

Headquartered in Indianapolis, The Corsi Group was founded in 1973 as a designer and manufacturer of custom cabinetry, and today has completed more than 50,000 projects.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) worked with Charlotte County and Virginia’s Growth Alliance to help secure the project for Virginia. Governor McAuliffe approved a $100,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Charlotte County with the project. The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $375,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds for the project. The company may be eligible to receive benefits from the Virginia Enterprise Zone Program, administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. Through its Virginia Jobs Investment Program, the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity will provide funding and services to support the company’s training activities.

~Green Applications LLC to invest $9.75 million to establish first Virginia operation ~ 

RICHMOND - Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that Green Applications LLC, a Division of Green Distribution, one of the largest printers and distributors of textile merchandise and heat applied graphics on the East Coast, will invest $9.75 million to establish its first Virginia operation in the Town of Gordonsville in Orange County. The company will design, screen print, produce and distribute graphic art on heat transfers and apparel, creating 323 new jobs. Virginia successfully competed against Florida and New Jersey for the project.

            Speaking in Gordonsville at today’s announcement, Governor McAuliffe said, “It is a pleasure to welcome Green Applications to Virginia as the company further expands its footprint on the East Coast. The investment in Gordonsville is a testament to the superior workforce in Orange County and the return of a formerly-vacant building, which used to employ more than 100 people, to productive use is a symbol of economic revitalization in the region. My top priority as governor is to grow and diversify the economy and attract innovative companies to the Commonwealth, and the creation of over 300 new jobs with this investment marks significant progress toward ensuring our economy remains competitive in the 21st Century.”

Governor McAuliffe Announces 155 New Jobs for Henry County

~Kilgour Industries Ltd to invest $27.3 million in first U.S. operation ~ 

RICHMOND - Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that Kilgour Industries Ltd, a United Kingdom-based supplier of aircraft airframe and engine machined products will invest $27.3 million in its first U.S. operation in Henry County and create 155 new jobs. Kilgour specializes in computerized numerical control (CNC) machining, wet chemical surface treatments and sub-assemblies of aerospace components. Virginia successfully competed against Florida, Michigan, North Carolina and South Carolina for the project.

            Speaking about today’s announcement in Martinsville, Governor McAuliffe said, “Securing an investment of this magnitude and 155 new jobs for a region that is continuing to rebound economically is a tremendous win for Virginia and a major step towards growing and diversifying our economy. This competitive project is another illustration of the Commonwealth’s leadership in the aerospace industry. We are thrilled that Henry County will be home to Kilgour Industries’ first U.S. operation, which will enable the company to meet increased demands and expand its customer base.”

            “More than 236 aerospace firms call Virginia home, and today we celebrate the addition of Kilgour Industries to the roster,” said Maurice Jones, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade. “This high-tech manufacturing company is an excellent fit for Henry County to continue to diversify its economy, and we look forward to Kilgour’s future success in the Commonwealth.”

            Kilgour Industries, a family-owned company established in 1966 in the United Kingdom, supplies aircraft airframe and engine machined products in aluminum, steel and titanium to the major aerospace original equipment manufacturers. Kilgour’s mission is to be the market leader in precision engineering and treatments for the aerospace industry.

            “On my initial visit to Martinsville-Henry County, I was pleasantly surprised by the manner in which business was conducted,” said Chief Executive Officer Ray Kilgour. “From the existing industry we met, the educational and training programs in the area, and the responsiveness of the economic development officials, we knew Martinsville-Henry County was a community that supports advanced manufacturing and a community in which we would be welcomed.”

The company is eligible to receive state benefits from the Virginia Enterprise Zone Program, administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. Additionally, through its Virginia Jobs Investment Program, the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity will provide funding and services to support the company’s retraining activities.

            “This is a tremendous day for the citizens of Henry County and Martinsville,” said H.G. Vaughn, Chairman of the Henry County Board of Supervisors. “Today’s announcement with Kilgour allows us to expand our international presence, bring in a partner in a growing industry sector, and provide 21st Century job opportunities for our citizens. Governor McDonnell Announces 64 New Jobs in Pulaski County

Alexander Industries to invest $2.88 million to relocate and expand operation

RICHMOND - Governor Bob McDonnell announced today that Alexander Industries, a privately held American manufacturer of firearms, will invest $2.88 million to relocate and expand its operations in Dublin Industrial Park in Pulaski County.  Virginia successfully competed against South Dakota and Texas for the project, which will create 64 new jobs.

            Speaking about today’s announcement, Governor McDonnell said, “It is a win to retain a Virginia-founded company as it thrives and expands. Alexander Industries was established in the Commonwealth in 2001, and continued growth requires the need for a larger facility and increased manufacturing capacity to meet demand. With this project the company triples its current workforce and will move operations to a 25,000-square-foot facility in Dublin Industrial Park that meets its needs. I am confident that Alexander Industries will continue its path of success in Pulaski County.”

“Alexander Industries has made a reputation of quality for itself over the last 12 years, and will continue to be a strong corporate citizen in the New River Valley,” said Jim Cheng, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade. “Pulaski County and the Town of Dublin offer solutions for the company’s current and future growth needs, and we look forward to the continued partnership between the Commonwealth of Virginia and Alexander Industries.”

            Alexander Industries (www.alexanderarms.com), established in 2001, is headquartered in Virginia and is best known for development of the .50 Beowulf and 6.5 Grendel cartridges and more recently the development of an all new rifle for the .338 Lapua cartridge, all designed by founder, Bill Alexander. Alexander produces rifles, ammunition, and accessories for its products.

Governor McDonnell Announces 50 New Jobs in Scott County

VFP, Inc. to invest $3.5 million to expand manufacturing operation

RICHMOND – Governor Bob McDonnell announced today that that VFP, Inc., a producer of quality prefabricated structures to the telecommunications, power, and modular building industries, will invest $3.5 million to expand its manufacturing operation in Scott County. Virginia successfully competed against Tennessee for the project, which will create 50 new jobs.

            Speaking about today’s announcement, Governor McDonnell said, “VFP, Inc. is a strong Virginia company that has thrived here since its founding in 1965. Its shelters protect critical equipment in all 50 states and around the world on all seven continents and are produced in Scott County. VFP's manufacturing facilities on its campus in Duffield allow all construction and equipment integration to be performed under one roof, providing timely completion and consistent quality. With this expansion, the company will continue to grow its operation and create 50 new job opportunities. We commend VFP’s success in the Commonwealth over the last 48 years and look forward to the decades to come.”

Through its Virginia Jobs Investment Program, the Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide funding and services to support the company’s recruitment and training activities.
