Battle of the Hook Returning In 2013 - New Re enactment Scheduled for Gloucester, VA

The Battle of the Hook returns to Gloucester, Virginia coming this October.  The days are the 18th through the 20th and will be at the beautiful Warner Hall location once again.  The first event held under this was back in 2008 which the picture here is from.  We will be supporting and promoting this event throughout the year.

We donated a series of pictures and poster to the county museum from the first event back in 2008 and will also do the same after this event.  We are going to put up a free press resource area giving away pictures for promotional use from our 2008 archives so that newspapers and magazines have images to work with.  These will be done under a creative commons license.  We will also be giving away a free poster we designed from the 2008 re enactment.  You will be able to download it and print it out or take it to a printer to be printed out.

Gloucester Jumbals Recipe, (Wreath Cookies) For Any Season

Flours
Flours (Photo credit: makatcheks)
Here is a recipe for a different type of cookie that dates back hundreds of years yet is updated for today's kitchen.  It's called Jumbals.  It's actually a very old English recipe for a very crisp wreath shaped cookie.  The following list is for the ingredients you will need.

1 pound of flour
1 pound of sugar
1 egg plus one egg white
1 cup of butter at room temperature

quarter cup blanched almonds, ground fine

Mix the sugar and flour together.  Combine both the egg and the egg white and beat together.  Warm the butter to a creamy texture.  Add eggs, butter and nuts to the flour mixture working into a fine dough.  Once the mixture is no longer sticky you are ready to roll the mix.  Use additional flour if needed.  Roll the mix out by hand and form into wreaths.

This is the basic cookie.   Now here is where you can be very creative on the finish.  You can brush the wreath with egg white and add other nuts, brown sugar, colored sugars, chocolate chips or leave plain and add a frosting later after it is baked.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 8 minutes or until golden brown around the edges.

If you have been looking for a recipe that can set your business apart and get people talking, this one is very unique.  When is the last time you saw a wreath cookie?  It's very simple to make and offers a great deal of opportunity to be creative with the finish.  You can create a wreath for any season.  You can also turn these into pretzel shaped cookies if desired.  Your imagination is your only limitation.

Gloucester, VA, Board of Supervisors Ask Senator Tommy Norment To Legalize Theft?

BEWARE THE ENEMY WITHIN!

In a recent article in the Gloucester County, VA Beehive paper, the county has openly stated that it is asking Virginia Senator Tommy Norment to add Gloucester County to a list of localities that may require connection to the public water and sewer system by property owners where public systems are present.

Property owners who have properly working private wells and sewage systems would not be required to disconnect and use public sources, but may be required to pay a connection/access fee and a monthly nonuser service charge.

Anyone feel a gun at their backs yet?  The county wants to charge you for services they are not rendering.  This is the same thing as if you owned a business, let's say a printing business, and you decide to send the county a bill for setup fees and then a monthly nonuser fee for not using your printing services.  The same for any insurance company, any bakery, any auto repair shop, any type of business.  You can quickly bankrupt the county if you do business the way the county government wants to do business.  Just because they are a government entity does not give them the right to practice what is tantamount to illegal business practices in the real world.

Both the county and the state want to legalize theft here plain and simple.  The county goes on to state in the article that they have already been collecting fees like this and made it clear that it was legal for them to do so, since 1988.  It may be legal, but it is immoral.  Anyone cheating the system here is fully justified in doing so in our view.

Now here is yet another kicker, the county says the proposal is to address environmental and FINANCIAL issues of the county's sanitary system.  A system already paid for by tax payer revenues by the way.  The article states that currently the public water and sewer system are subsidized and supported by all tax payers including those who do not have public water and sewer services.  Since this is already the case, why are county officials proposing more fees?  Dual taxation?  Moral bankruptcy?  Shear greed?

The revenues from the fees and charges collected would be designated to support sanitary services and reduce the subsidized amount taken from the general fund.  There is your answer folks.  The county wants more access to the general fund which is made up of your tax dollars anyway.  It's nothing more than another money grab.

The article goes on to state that the proposed legislation would also facilitate business and residential development in the county now and into the future.  No it own't.  Who wants to do business in a place that legalizes theft in our view?  Who wants to live with outrageous taxation?  We see more people leaving because of issues like this.  Not moving here to support such nonsense.  This is the kind of legislation that people move out of the county because of it.

World!|s 1st iPhone, iPad & iPod touch data recovery software for PC and Mac users!

Still it gets worse.  The article also states that the inability to require sewer system connections will handicap the county in it's efforts to comply with regulatory requirements, including the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act which is shear nonsense in and of itself.  If you really want to preserve the Chesapeake Bay, you force the corporations to clean up their acts that are along the tributaries of the bay and are the ones who are really responsible for the damage.  But it's easier to blame the public masses and make them pay the burden for corporate pollution.  If sewage runoff was really the issue, humans could never have survived this long on this planet.  The water ways would have been over polluted with extreme toxicity centuries ago.

But let's play their game for a few minutes here anyway.  As we see it. the government is the one that has the real issues with run off.  Blame the Governor because he is the one in charge of all the wildlife in the state.  The defecation that comes from wildlife is by far more than human waste.  Who's looking at that?  What about the county that sprays toxic pesticides every summer to control the mosquitoes?  What about the runoff from that?  Also, in case you did not know this, 3 Mile Island, the nuclear power plant located outside of Harrisburg, PA is located along one of the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay.  That's the same power plant that melted down a few decades ago.  Anyone think that has not caused lasting damage to the bay?  Yet you are being told that you are the real cause of the pollution?  Give me a break.  They are barking up the wrong tree.

Now here is a point.  If you own a business, try and send Gloucester County a bill for not using your services.  See how fast you end up in court with criminal charges being put up against you.  Why are you allowing them to do this to you?

Every session of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors begins with an opening prayer.  A local minister or preacher comes in and delivers this.  We applaud that.  What we want to point out is the fact that God is not deaf.  It could just very well be that we are one of the messengers God has sent to answer those prayers for wisdom.  Something to think about.

March Is Bribe Your Local Official Month

There are days, weeks, months and even years dedicated to various special interests.  Last month was Black History Month.  Well in our opinion one of the special interests that gets little or no attention is our local officials.  So we have decided to dedicate the month of March as Bribe Your Local Official Month.

That's right.  March is now the official month for bribing your local official.  There are plenty of good reasons for doing so too.  Want to lower your property tax bill?  Bribe a local official.  Want to hurry along a zoning matter?  Bribe a local official.  Want to get special permissions to do something?  Bribe a local official.  Want to bump off your business competition? Bribe a local official for a codes compliance issue for your competition to get hit with.  Get creative with what you want to accomplish and then figure out which local official you need to bribe to get done what you need to accomplish.

Don't be stingy with the bribe either.  In fact, be very generous with it.  Bribing officials is the American way.  Why should you miss the action?  In fact, we highly recommend that your bribe be very generous as we will now show you how to get your money back.  We are going to designate April as Blackmail your local official month.  Accomplish what you need to with bribes during the month of March and make sure you record and keep good records of the bribe.  Once you have achieved what you set out to do, during the month of April you get to Blackmail your local official for taking a bribe from you.  Get all your money back and then a nice little profit to boot.

If Blackmail is not your thing, not to worry, May is going to be official take down your local official month.  You can then expose your local official for having taken bribes from you.  Now for you truly black harts out there, using all three techniques is the ultimate game for a real laughing riot.  Not to worry, there is more to come.

This post is meant as entertainment only.  Please consult your local officials for actual rules, regulations and information for covering your actual needs.

Gloucester Officials To Charge VA Governor With Violations?

If you once again look at the local county Animal Control Ordinances, specifically  section 3-4,
that reads as follows;

Sec. 3-4.  Animals and fowl prohibited to be at large upon, or to graze alongside of, any
public street or highway.

It shall be unlawful for any person to permit any animal or fowl owned by him or in his
custody or under his control to run at large upon, or to graze alongside, any public street
or highway, whether such street or highway be enclosed by fence or not.

Who is in control of deer?  Who is in control of rabbits?  Who is in control of fox?  Ultimately, deer, rabbits, fox and other wild game fall under the control of the Governor of the state.  With this being the case, we see deer, rabbits, and other wild game grazing along the roadside all the time.  For that matter, the same goes for all kinds of birds that fall under fowl as listed above.  That would mean that the Governor of the state of Virginia is in violation of Gloucester County Animal Control Ordinance 3-4 as defined above.  Are local leaders going to charge the Governor with these violations?  To do so would be suicide for the officials of this county.  To not do so is a conflict of interest.  If there is a conflict of interest in the ordinance, how can it possibly be enforceable?

Wait, it gets even worse.  Under Gloucester County Animal Control Ordinance 3-16, the Governor of Virginia has even more problems.  Let's take a look at that shall we?

Sec. 3-16.  Allowing animals to defecate on public property or on private property of
other persons.

It shall be unlawful for any owner or person in control of any animal to allow any animal
to defecate on the property of other persons without their consent or that of the
authorized agent or person having control of the premises or on public property.
Immediate removal and sanitary disposal of the defecated matter shall not constitute a
violation of this section. The defecated matter shall be placed in a container and
disposed of in a proper waste receptacle.

The Governor has deer, rabbits, fox, fowl and all kinds of animals defecating on both public and private property all over the county.  Who is cleaning that up?  No one.  Who is responsible for cleaning it up?  According to the county, the Governor's office.  Is the Governor's office cleaning any of this up?  No.  Why not?  Because it is not an enforceable ordinance?  Is anyone being charged with violations to either of these?  Has anyone consented to having deer defecate on their property?  We have not.

So if you park your vehicle in Gloucester County and birds defecate on it, do you call Animal Control and register a complaint and have them come out and wash your car on behalf of the Governor's office so that the county does not have to charge the Governor with violations to the ordinance?  I would say yes to that.  In fact, that is probably the best use for Animal Control.  Defecation duty.  Put Animal Control officers to work going around the county cleaning up all the defecation from the Governor's animals to keep the Governor's office in compliance with the local ordinances.  It's a crappy job but someone has to do it.

It's also a great way to grow the Animal Control positions in this county.  There is so much crap all over the county and we need it all cleaned up.  Animal Control can set up multiple car wash stations so anyone who has had their vehicle crapped on by any of the birds in the county, can get a free car wash.  Get your shoes cleaned for free if you step in crap that is not from one of your own animals.  If a bird takes a dump on you, call Animal Control and register a complaint and get your cloths cleaned for free.  Otherwise the county has to charge the Governor's office with violations to the county ordinance, right?  Wait, according to the ordinances above, Animal Control has to remove the defecation and dispose of it in a sanitary way.  They would not just be able to wash away the defecation.  Sorry about their bad luck on how they have to clean the crap up. Was anyone thinking when these ordinances were being written?  We didn't think so either.

As usual, we are not attorney's and this does not constitute legal advice.  Only an attorney can legally advice you.  We are just questioning everything as usual and laughing our heads off at the same time.
