Bacon's Rebellion - 1676.  We have created a special edition of this book.  The original book was transferred into an electronic edition some years ago and we acquired rights to it.  We have made some updates to the book and now are offering it here. All the usual information on Bacon's Rebellion on the Internet is horrible to say the least.  Gloucester factors highly in this story which is why we have it here.  Nathaniel Bacon died at Pate's House known as Gloucester Hall which we are researching now.  We have included pictures of Warner Hall which was one of the placed Bacon went when he first came to Gloucester.  We are allowing free downloads of this e-book and we are giving a license on our version of it as well.

GVLN - Middle Peninsula Farmers Facing Crop Losses

The heat wave that has blistered corn in the Midwest may help some local farmers, but others worry their crops will fall to the same fate.

Two weeks ago, corn was selling for about $5.50 a bushel. Earlier this week, after the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that 30 percent of the corn in the nation's 18 top producing states was in poor condition, prices on the Chicago Board of Trade soared to $7.74 per bushel.

For farmers in Isle of Wight and Surry counties, whose crops have not been effected by either the high heat or a lack of rain in recent weeks, that's good news. But Gloucester County farmer Charles Rich doubts he will reap rewards from the higher price.

Gloucester, VA Trucker Seriously Injured In Early I-83 Morning Crash With Hanover Trucker

A truck driver from Gloucester, Va., was seriously injured early this morning when his truck slammed into the rear of another tractor-trailer on Interstate 83 near a construction zone, state police reported.

Stanley D. Taylor, 36, was flown to York Hospital after the 1 a.m. crash near mile marker 23 in the southbound lanes of the interstate in Manchester Township, police said. Police described his injuries as "major." A York Hospital spokesperson said this morning that Taylor was not listed as a patient there.

A major part about living in an historical area is understanding history.  Knowing and understanding our past is a major part of helping us understand where we are today and where we want to go in the future.  Understanding the intents and purposes of our founding fathers and their message as they stated them as opposed to how modern day revisionists would have you believe them is critical knowing why the world presently works the way it does.  Over the next few weeks, besides our other stories, we will be presenting a number of historical documents along with commentary to help everyone better understand where we have been, where we are today and where we want to look to going into the future.



  We will look at the morality of yesterday and compare it to today and see what we want to consider for tomorrow.  We have a number of articles and pieces already prepared for just this idea.  We will be looking at not only the works of Thomas Jefferson, we will be looking at the life and contributions of George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, Henry D Thoreau and many others.

  George Washington has some very interesting points that are even more valid today than they were in his own time.  In fact, one could say he was very prophetic to modern times.

Gloucester, VA - Two distinctly different artists share a common bond

Two artists live across the Chesapeake Bay from each other – Kacey Carneal in Gloucester and Mama Girl on the Eastern Shore.

They’ve never met but might be soul sisters of a sort.

Both are self-taught artists who rely on creative visions that they say are channeled through them. They’re part of a show of paintings and sculptures by 16 such artists at the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center, “The Beat Goes On: Self-Taught Artists and Their Visionary Art,” organized by Gayle Paul, center curator.

 “I think I have spirits who help me,” Carneal said of her work. “I call it magic. It goes whichever way it wants to go.”

Carneal has lived in her 17th century home on Free School Creek for 40 years. Her late husband inherited the historic schoolhouse and 60 rural acres, and Carneal has transformed the two-story structure with antiques, her clever, painted furniture and dozens of her folk paintings.

Her house, that’s reality.

“The studio is my not reality,” she stressed during a tour of her home last week. “The real world is not in there.”

Carneal’s sacred place for painting is a small, 1930s cottage surrounded on three sides by water. It’s a short walk from her home along a strip of land where deer may cross her path.

Gloucester Sheriff's Office - Victims In Apparent Murder/Suicide ID'd

GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) - The Gloucester County Sheriff's Office has released the names of a man and woman found shot to death inside a home Friday evening.

Investigators say it is an apparent murder/suicide.

Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Scott Little said family members called deputies around 6:30p.m. to check on Neville Jackson, 85, and Mary Jackson, 79. They arrived to find their bodies inside the home in the 6900 block of Ware Neck Road.
