The Gloucester Magazine - Daffodil Festival Edition

The Gloucester Magazine vol 1 issue 1 from Chuck Thompson

We are introducing our newest creation by TTC Media.  The Gloucester Magazine covering Gloucester County, Virginia.  (We have readers from all over the world so we need to specify exact location here).  This is Volume One Issue One.  We are not producing this in print format.  This is strictly an online digital magazine.  This first edition is mostly all pictures and covers the Daffodil Festival from this past weekend.  We wanted to make it larger but due to computer issues, we had to stop at 26 pages.

So far the feedback on the magazine is that people want it to be like a more traditional magazine with articles along with pictures.  We can do that.  Everyone is free to download and share this magazine with anyone they want however the contents of the magazine are under copyright so no part of the magazine may be printed or changed in any way without our express permission in writing in advance.   In order to download a copy you must first become a member of Slideshare itself.  Becoming a member is easy and free.  You can sign up using your Facebook or LinkedIn account or create a free account the normal way through Slideshare.  We hope everyone enjoys the latest creation.  We have a lot more in the works.

Inside Look At The Masonic Order

THE ANTEROOM

Fourteen years ago the writer of this volume entered the temple of Freemasonry, and that date stands out in memory as one of the most significant days in his life. There was a little spread on the night of his raising, and, as is the custom, the candidate was asked to give his impressions of the Order. Among other things, he made request to know if there was any little book which would tell a young man the things he would most like to know about Masonry—what it was, whence it came, what it teaches, and what it is trying to do in the world? No one knew of such a book at that time, nor has any been found to meet a need which many must have felt before and since. By an odd coincidence, it has fallen to the lot of the author to write the little book for which he made request fourteen years ago.

This bit of reminiscence explains the purpose of the present volume, and every book must be judged by its spirit and purpose, not less than by its style and contents. Written as a commission from the Grand Lodge of Iowa, and approved by that Grand body, a copy of this book is to be presented to every [viii]man upon whom the degree of Master Mason is conferred within this Grand Jurisdiction. Naturally this intention has determined the method and arrangement of the book, as well as the matter it contains; its aim being to tell a young man entering the order the antecedents of Masonry, its development, its philosophy, its mission, and its ideal. Keeping this purpose always in mind, the effort has been to prepare a brief, simple, and vivid account of the origin, growth, and teaching of the Order, so written as to provoke a deeper interest in and a more earnest study of its story and its service to mankind.

Read the book below for the rest of this story.

Anti Federalist Papers No. 6 Anarchy

'A people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.'

The evils of anarchy have been portrayed with all the imagery of language in the growing colors of eloquence; the affrighted mind is thence led to clasp the new Constitution as the instrument of deliverance, as the only avenue to safety and happiness. To avoid the possible and transitory evils of one extreme, it is seduced into the certain and permanent misery necessarily attendant on the other. A state of anarchy from its very nature can never be of long continuance; the greater its violence the shorter the duration.

Order and security are immediately sought by the distracted people beneath the shelter of equal laws and the salutary restraints of regular government; and if this be not attainable, absolute power is assumed by the one, or a few, who shall be the most enterprising and successful. If anarchy, therefore, were the inevitable consequence of rejecting the new Constitution, it would be infinitely better to incur it, for even then there would be at least the chance of a good government rising out of licentiousness. But to rush at once into despotism because there is a bare possibility of anarchy ensuing from the rejection, or from what is yet more visionary, the small delay that would be occasioned by a revision and correction of the proposed system of government is so superlatively weak, so fatally blind, that it is astonishing any person of common understanding should suffer such an imposition to have the least influence on his judgment; still more astonishing that so flimsy and deceptive a doctrine should make converts among the enlightened freemen of America, who have so long enjoyed the blessings of liberty.

But when I view among such converts men otherwise pre-eminent it raises a blush for the weakness of humanity that these, her brightest ornaments, should be so dimsighted to what is self-evident to most men, that such imbecility of judgment should appear where so much perfection was looked for. This ought to teach us to depend more on our own judgment and the nature of the case than upon the opinions of the greatest and best of men, who, from constitutional infirmities or particular situations, may sometimes view an object through a delusive medium; but the opinions of great men are more frequently the dictates of ambition or private interest.

After the American Revolution, it became clear early on that the present Continental Congress had many flaws.  These needed to be fixed as fast as possible.  Arguments were all over the board.  The Federalist Papers and the Anti Federalist Papers were the major arguments of the day.  We are presenting both arguments on this site so that there is a very clear perspective of what it took to build this nation.  Even though the American Revolution was over, new troubles everywhere were only beginning.
