Another Milestone for Virginia Film Industry
Estimated Economic Impact to be $45 Million per Season

RICHMOND – Governor Bob McDonnell and AMC announced today that Turn (working title), a new series for AMC being produced by AMC Studios, will be filming in Central Virginia. The pilot for the film was shot in the Richmond area earlier this year and AMC recently reported that it has ordered a ten-episode season of the show to premiere on AMC in 2014. Turn is based on the nonfiction book “Washington’s Spies: The Story of America’s First Spy Ring” by Alexander Rose. The story is centered on a band of young soldiers and civilians who were part of a top-secret spy ring that assisted George Washington and helped America to win the Revolutionary War.

The first season of the series will begin shooting this fall and be completed in the spring. Turn was developed and is being written by Craig Silverstein (Nikita) and stars Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, The Adventures of Tintin). Executive Producers are Silverstein and Barry Josephson (Bones).  AMC is the television home of some of the most popular dramas in cable television including Mad MenThe Walking Dead and the recently-endedBreaking Bad, created by Virginia native Vince Gilligan.  AMC Studios produces The Walking Dead and the upcoming 2014 AMC series Halt and Catch Fire, as well as Turn.  The studio division of AMC also co-producesLow Winter Sun and is currently in production on the pilot Line Of Sight, directed by Jonathan Demme.

Governor McDonnell remarked, “I am pleased to welcome AMC and Turn back to the Commonwealth to film this series. Our administration has been committed to putting in place policies that help the private sector create good jobs for Virginians, and one way we have successfully achieved this is through encouraging and facilitating the production of more films and television shows in the state.”
“Virginia is obviously the perfect setting for a Revolutionary War drama. While other states were seriously considered due to very aggressive financial incentives, we are glad we were able to work so productively with Governor McDonnell and the Virginia Film Office to bring Turn to an ideal production location that shares significant history with the events we are depicting on screen,” said Stefan Reinhardt, senior vice president of finance and studio operations for AMC.
Virginia Film Office Director Andy Edmunds commented, “Landing an original television series is an important milestone for our industry. Long-term job opportunities for cast, crew and other related businesses will be a major catalyst towards growing a sustainable and thriving production industry in Virginia. AMC simply produces some of the best content in the business, and we are proud to be partnering with them on this outstanding series.”
The film industry in Virginia plays a significant role in the state’s economy. In 2011, total economic impact of the film and television industry in Virginia was $394.4 million, a 14.5 percent increase over 2010. In addition, 3,817 jobs were attributed to the film industry in 2011, up from 2,651 jobs in 2010.
Turn will be eligible for Virginia incentives based on actual expenditures in the Commonwealth, and other added-value deliverables including Virginia Tourism advertising. The economic impact of Turnshooting in Virginia is estimated to be $45 million per season. Liberty's Kids 11, Washington Takes Command - Battle of the Hook Pre Show

Washington Takes Command is episode number 11 for Liberty's Kids.  These are the events that led up to the Battle of the Hook that happened only days before the victory in Yorktown, Virginia.  The Battle of the Hook was part of the strategy of Washington and allies to cut off all escape routes for Lord Cornwallis.  Gloucester, Virginia is just across the river from Yorktown and was part of Lord Cornwallis plans for an emergency escape.

After the British surrendered in Yorktown, they then surrendered in Gloucester, Virginia.  The history books seem to overlook this fact.  In celebration of the Battle of the Hook, there is a major reenactment coming to Gloucester here very soon which is why we are calling the Liberty's Kids videos here a pre show.

Liberty's Kids episode number 10, Postmaster General Franklin.  Gives you a great idea of the events that led up to the final victory in Yorktown, Virginia.  Just before that final battle and very much a part of it was the Battle of the Hook that took place in Gloucester, Virginia.  It was part of the strategy of General George Washington to surround Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown.  Gloucester, Virginia is just across the river from Yorktown.  The Battle of the Hook was a part of cutting off and surrounding the enemy.

That is why the Battle of the Hook is such a big deal.  The upcoming reenactment battle is very much a part of the celebration of our freedoms, liberty and independence and remembering what our forefathers did for us all.

We Did Our Part, Too, Declares Gloucester Residents of Role in the Revolutionary War

The Battle of the Hook and Gloucester’s role in the Revolutionary War will be featured in the September edition of the Inn at Warner Hall Dinner and Discussion series.
Gloucester, VA (PRWEB) August 28, 2013

When it comes to telling the story of the Revolutionary War, the Inn at Warner Hall in Gloucester, Va. is among the first to say “we did our part, too.”
On Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 5:30 p.m., guests at the sixth event at the Inn at Warner Hall’s Dinner and Discussion series will learn more about Gloucester County’s pivotal role in securing Patriot victory in the Revolutionary War, specifically at the Battle of the Hook that immediately preceded the Siege at Yorktown.

The Inn at Warner Hall’s Dinner and Discussion series features a prominent speaker, gourmet buffet dinner and thoughtful conversation.
Warren Deal, Committee Chairman for the Battle of the Hook reenactment event that will take place on the Warner Hall grounds Oct. 19 and 20, will lead the discussion.

“This country was founded on principles of individual liberty and the opportunity to achieve and improve for everyone to a level that had not been seen in history then nor has been seen since,” Deal said.
“This was achieved with a great sacrifice by ordinary men and women as well as those who we typically consider as the founders. It is my hope that the Battle of the Hook and other living history activities will keep alive everyone’s knowledge and appreciation of the miracle that took place from 1776 to 1781.”
By day, Deal is a Generation Project Manager for Dominion Virginia Power. He graduated from Gloucester High School and Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering.

Deal is also a member and officer of the recreated Seventh Virginia Regiment, a Revolutionary War re-enactment group, and has participated in living history and re-enactment events from North Carolina to Maine for seven years. He is currently the Lieutenant of the Rifle Company of the Seventh Virginia and his unit will participate in the Battle of the Hook reenactment this year.
The reenactment will bring more than 1,000 infantry, cavalry, artillery and maritime landing reenactors from across the country to the Inn at Warner Hall, home of President George Washington’s ancestors.

The Revolutionary War-era “generation did not get it perfect and they it left to us to keep working at building this country to fulfill the promises and liberties stated in the Declaration and the Constitution. We will do a lesser job if we do not remember and learn from the ‘Revolutionary Generation.’”
The “Dinner and Discussion” events are $50 per person and include dinner, complimentary wine and the featured speaker.
Seating is limited. Contact Warner Hall to reserve a seat at 800.331.2720 or info(at)warnerhall(dot)com.

ABOUT THE INN AT WARNER HALL:

Ideally situated at the head of the Severn River in Gloucester County, the manor house at Warner Hall stands on a neck of land occupied and built upon continually from the mid-17th century. The original six hundred-acre plantation site was established by Augustine Warner as a "land grant" from the British Crown. Augustine Warner received the acreage in exchange for bringing twelve settlers across the Atlantic Ocean to the Jamestown Settlement.
The two families associated with the property from this early period until well into the 19th century, the Warners and the Lewises, were among the most prominent families in Colonial Virginia. Some of the most recognized names in American history are direct descendants of Augustine Warner – George Washington, the first president of the United States, Robert E. Lee, the most famous Civil War General and Captain Meriwether Lewis, renowned American explorer of the Lewis & Clark expedition.  (Our notes;  Also the site where part of the first American Revolution took place with Bacon's Rebellion).

Queen Elizabeth II, the current monarch of England, is a direct descendent of Augustine Warner through the Bowes-Lyon family and the Earl of Strathmore. In England, Warner Hall is referred to as "The home of the Queen’s American ancestors."

For Theresa and Troy Stavens, the current stewards of Warner Hall and the Inn’s owners, Warner Hall is a dream come true. Their passion for hospitality and historic preservation led them to Warner Hall where they saw the perfect opportunity to use their financial management and marketing skills to preserve an historical property and pursue their real passion – making people happy.
