The Writing And Signing of The Declaration of Independence

Here is a story on what our forefathers went through in deciding the fate of our nation.  Who would have the courage to do the same today?  Our Independence is quickly disappearing and soon the 4th of July will have little to no meaning at all other than a day that we blow off fireworks for some odd and unknown reason.

History is no longer taught the way it once was and the stories of our nation are disappearing quickly.  Let us at least take a few moments to reflect what the 4th of July and American Independence really means.

John Adams And The Question of Independence

John Adams And The Question of Independence" target="_blank">John Adams And The Question of Independence from Chuck Thompson

As we move towards the 4th of July, now is a good time to look at what one of our forefathers had to say about moving towards independence.  The above is only 5 pages long.  It will become available for free downloads once the folks over at SlideShare fix the issues with that area.  In the mean time, you can read it online.

Being led by good intentions - (The Errors of Church And State)

Open Letter to the Citizens of Gloucester County Virginia

As we approach Independence Day I want to look at our history.  During the 1700s the Christian Clergy in these colonies were the leaders of independence movement.  They preached the Bible.  For those weak on history look it up but you do not have to go any further than our Declaration of Independence and US and Virginia Constitutions to see how our Christian Clergy influenced our founding fathers.

This is to the Clergy and other leaders in our local churches your good intentions are leading us where all good intentions lead us.  You have become comfortable with your belongings and have forgotten why you are here.  Do they still teach about Sodom and Gomorrah?  It is clear in the Bible when you fail to lead/shepherd the people it will be the end of times.  Is that what you are planning to be failures as shepherds to hasten the return GOD through his son, Jesus back to earth?  Prove me wrong!

Our moral compass is broken and it requires your leadership, not your doing what is easy and politically correct to get us back where we belong.  You need to worship your loving Father, not a man and not money, and the comfortable life you have.  To be a shepherd/fisher of men is not for the faint at heart.  If you are comfortable with the way it is remember you will have to stand before the Father and explain your inactions?  Paul died for his beliefs are you willing to be uncomfortable for yours.

People of Gloucester, tell the leaders of your church they need to be our moral compass to return us to being right with GOD to restore the greatness of our commonwealth and nation.  Copy this into an email and send it to them.

“For the Common Good. “

Sincerely,
Alexander James Jay

We are going to help Alexander here as we happen to have an e-book on the history of Christianity in the US.  So we are going to embed that in with his comments as they are spot on.

"The Constitution was created for a Christian people and will serve no other".  John Adams.  The separation of Church and State was so that one could not gain control of the other as was often the case throughout Europe.  It was not designed to be a freedom from religion.  In fact, it was considered an essential part of everyday life to be Christian in nature and heart.

The Constitution ensured that no single denomination of any church gained control over the state.  It also ensures that the State can not favor one denomination of any given christian sect.  Thomas Jefferson has been misquoted so often that people actually believe the falsehoods surrounding his writings and the false claims that he was an atheist.  It is the place of the church to discuss politics.  It is the place of the state to discuss religion.  It is not the place of either church or state to prevent the others freedom of speech.

It is through the free exchange of ideas that we grow.  We have all been denied growth by those who hate freedom, your freedom, the freedom of your children and grandchildren.  We have all been set back by a small minority that has won the death of your freedoms.  A small minority stole your freedoms and continue to do so today at so many levels because we have all let them.  The power really is with the people.

The school has no real power to prevent prayer on school grounds under any circumstances despite what some misinformed judges decided.  Those decisions are in direct conflict with the Constitution itself, hence void according to the Constitution itself.

Again we are embedding the Bill of Rights so that each and every person may reference what it actually says, not what someone wants to tell you it says.

Section 1.)  Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As we well know today, laws have been enacted in direct violation to the above at so many levels.  The laws are invalid according to the Constitution itself.  No government agency has a right to even try and enforce laws that are in violation to the First Amendment.  Your rights are disappearing fast, will you continue to sit by and do nothing?  Worry about what form of entertainment to please yourself with instead?

Let Them Not Take Our Freedom's - Alexander James Jay

Open Letter to the Citizens of Gloucester County Virginia,

For the Common Good.“  Have you ever read the Constitution of the United States?  How about the Constitution of Virginia?
Happy Memorial Day to you!
Today we honor the men and women of our great country that have given service in the time of need to obtain and maintain our freedoms.  Virginia has given up many sons and daughters in the many wars since the beginning of our county. Some gave all for the cause they believed in.  We have many veterans that we live near or work with daily.

Let’s look at their accomplishments.  We won our independence from a county that did not respect our rights as citizens of that country, a country that placed unfair taxes on us.  There are many things that we fought for, read our Declaration of Independence to remember.  We have been in many wars over the years to maintain our way of life and to help others to obtain the freedoms that we have.

As our politicians like to ask us let us give back the freedoms that were fought for many times over.  They will give us security in exchange for giving up these freedoms.  Let’s think about that for a moment.  The countries without freedoms are the ones we have fought with during the many wars we have been in.  Did those countries have security? No.  They were little better than slaves to the powers in charge.  It took many years for all of our citizens to be given freedom and we should not allow our politicians to take away our freedoms.

How can we ensure our security, not by taking away our rights.  We are a commonwealth; “for the common good.“  We need to stand together, looking out for each other the way we have done in the past.  We are stronger together than separately.  Look what Virginia’s sons and daughters accomplished working together with other like minded individuals.  Virginia’s sons and daughters and those of the other 12 Colonies did not look at how different we were from one another but how we are alike; the things we have in common, our love of freedom, family, and the belief that others should not tell us how we can live. Because of their sacrifices we have our great country and the ability to honor those that have given us our freedom.

To survive and return to our greatness, before our current recession, we need to focus on how we are alike not how we are different.  We need to remember the freedoms in the Bill of Rights – Speech, Religion, etc and that we do not dictate terms to our neighbors we take care of our own house, but remember to look out for our neighbors.

For our veterans of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marines, and Navy and families of these service members thank you for the love of and service to our county.

Sincerely,

Alexander James Jay

Virginia Constitution And Local Government Concerns For Today

English: 1830 Constitution of Virginia, Page 1
English: 1830 Constitution of Virginia, Page 1 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Open Letter to the Citizens of Gloucester County Virginia,

For the Common Good.“  Have you ever read the Constitution of the United States?  How about the Constitution of Virginia?

The Virginia Constitution is similar.  Virginia is able to focus within its borders and does not have to consider the defense from the outside because several states banded together to form a union like none in history.  We have a lot to be proud of for the work the founding fathers and mothers did to create this great county.

The Constitution was written by men from all walks of life that wanted us to not live under the rule of an unjust government.  I am not a lawyer so I am not giving you a legal definition but what these writings mean to me.

As we were taught in history Thomas Jefferson thought the original Constitution should contain a Bill of Rights.  It did not happen immediately but it happened.  The Virginia Constitution begins with a Bill of Rights similar to those in the US Constitution.
What is not said and nor taught is these Bills of Rights are the responsibilities of the people.  It was not given to us to sit back and do nothing it is something we have to work for or we will lose.

Article 1 Section 1 is Equality and rights of man. We have to work together for the common good or be torn apart by those that want to treat us unfairly.  We are better together than apart.  Walter Reed, a son of Gloucester Virginia knew this and what he did was for the common good.

What can we do for the common good relating to Article 1 Section 1 of the Virginia Constitution?  Let your county representative know the things they are doing that are not in accordance with section and that unless they change we will replace them with someone that will for the rules of law and the Virginia Constitution.  What is an example:  The Board of Supervisors have adopted a plan for the Court House Area.  It is not published or available for review, that I am able to find (parts of the proposal has been published on this web site; however there are very limited details).

From what I have been able to find out it will raise our taxes while the Board of Supervisors try to make our Court House area look like the city centers that are being built on the peninsula.  We do not have the tax base or the need for another imitation European City. The proposal will take away the rights of the property owners.  How is this affecting us besides the higher taxes? The shop owners will have to raise prices to pay to make the changes dictated by the county.  Another area is our school system.  Here we are letting the school system and the county Board of Supervisors know how we feel.  Good job we must keep up the good fight to make things right.  Our pens and our votes are the way to correct what is wrong and they are effective as long as we remember or history.

Sincerely,

Alexander James Jay

Rosewell's Legacies Continue To Live On

Rosewell Ruins - By Chuck Thompson of TTC Media
Rosewell Ruins - By Chuck Thompson of TTC Media (Photo credit: Battleofthehook)

American History" target="_blank">Rosewell Ruins and American History from Chuck Thompson

Rosewell, the mansion and one of the finest homes built in all of colonial America may be in ruins today, but it's legacies continue to live on in both the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as the United States as a whole.  With Mann Page who was one of Virginia's governor's and Thomas Jefferson who spent a great deal of time with his friend Mann Page, the seeds of liberty were well sown in this home.  It has been a Gloucester rumor that the Declaration of Independence were drafted here.  Though there is no evidence to support the idea that Jefferson came back to Gloucester to do so, there is a reasonable argument that can be made that through the many conversations between Mann Page and Thomas Jefferson, the ideas for such a draft did originate here.  So it becomes a matter of semantics.

Rosewell Ruins is the focus of our new free tools for local businesses.  We have designed an advertising piece around the famous ruins in order to help local businesses promote themselves and at the same time promote tourism, history and the Rosewell Foundation all in one single shot.  We are also giving away a free e-book of Gloucester, Virginia history 1893 along with this ad.  Businesses will be able to copy a link for the download of the e-book to their site and give away this e-book to their customers and their customers will never know where it actually came from.

There are more of these types of ads coming for local businesses as well and businesses can mix and match or just stick to one ad that they want to work with.  There are no costs to any of the businesses to get involved in sponsoring any of the ads.  The only real costs are for printing the pages of the ads for distribution plus the time it takes to set up each ad for the individual business that the business is in complete control of.

We are hosting and licensing the source files for local businesses here and the information for this ad campaign will be available by May 8th, 2013 if not sooner.  We are also hosting and licensing the e-books for business distribution.  There are no costs for this either.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5NJpRCvjyV8V2VUZVE4RkxzLWM/edit?usp=sharing  This is the download link to the free e-book on Gloucester History written in 1893.  The e-book itself is an historical piece of history in electronic form.  It's free to everyone.  This will also be the same link put up along with the source files shortly.

This is a copy of the book and can be read right here online.  It can also be downloaded from our SlideShare account.  Businesses can also host the SlideShare e-book on their site if they think it would help.  We hope local business enjoy these new tools.

Gloucester, VA Links and News - Thomas Jefferson - History of Our Nation

Thomas Jefferson - Response To The Citizens of Albemarle, February 12, 1790

View more documents from Chuck Thompson

A major part about living in an historical area is understanding history.  Knowing and understanding our past is a major part of helping us understand where we are today and where we want to go in the future.  Understanding the intents and purposes of our founding fathers and their message as they stated them as opposed to how modern day revisionists would have you believe them is critical knowing why the world presently works the way it does.  Over the next few weeks, besides our other stories, we will be presenting a number of historical documents along with commentary to help everyone better understand where we have been, where we are today and where we want to look to going into the future.

We will look at the morality of yesterday and compare it to today and see what we want to consider for tomorrow.  We have a number of articles and pieces already prepared for just this idea.  We will be looking at not only the works of Thomas Jefferson, we will be looking at the life and contributions of George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, Henry D Thoreau and many others.

George Washington has some very interesting points that are even more valid today than they were in his own time.  In fact, one could say he was very prophetic to modern times.
