American Independence Won - Born Free And Equal

Liberty's Kids, episode number 37, Born Free And Equal.  The start of the troubles of a new nation.  Even though the war for independence has just ended, new troubles were only beginning for this new nation.

Today we are continuing the special editions.

Surrender of Lord Cornwallis at York Town" target="_blank">Surrender of Lord Cornwallis at York Town from Chuck Thompson

We begin with the Articles of Capitulation or the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia.  This is a very rare view of that document.

Present day view of the Moore house where Lord Cornwallis signed the articles of capitulation.  Yorktown, Virginia.

View of British and Hessian troops that surrendered.  Picture is from Battle of the Hook reenactment of 2008.

Surrender field in Yorktown, Virginia.  Where the British marched in defeat to American and French troops.

Trophies of war.  British cannons surrendered to American and French troops in Yorktown, Virginia.  On display in Yorktown, Virginia.

The Thomas Nelson house.  This was Lord Cornwallis headquarters before the surrender.  Yorktown, Virginia.

You can still visit historical Yorktown and see the cannon balls lodged into the houses of the period.  The results of constant bombing by American and French troops against the British and Hessian armies.

These last three pictures are from the Yorktown battlefield complete with earthworks, readouts and canons.  Gives you an idea of what the battlefield looked like during the period.  These earthworks are left over from the American Revolution and were used again during the American Civil War.  They are presently maintained as part of our national heritage.  Tax dollars well spent here anyway.

Yorktown, American Revolution Special Edition

Liberty's Kids, episode number 36 of 40 episodes.  Yorktown.  We are almost through with this section of our Liberty Education Series and it has been a pure pleasure to work with these videos.  They are impressively well researched and presented.  Though we found a few faults and a few areas of question, those areas were minor and not worth arguing overall as we also considered the audience for these videos.

Today we are presenting a number of special e-books as they relate to this episode and are a real education to the founding principles of this nation.  So this is an extended series today.

We are beginning with Peggy Owen.  The story of a Quaker family.  Quakers were against every form of war, until it was realized that the American Revolution was more than just a war for freedom to govern ourselves.  It was a total revolution of the principles of Christianity itself.  Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, liberty, independence are all tied together for a reason.  They are the foundations of this nation and there has never been freedom from religion as so many want you to believe.

Free downloads of this e-book are available on our SlideShare site.  You will have to sign in with either a Facebook account, LinkedIn account or create a free account to access the free download.  You can read it here online by clicking the icon in the lower right hand corner to enlarge the book into a full size screen view.

Our next book are letters written by General Lafayette to a host of famous people of the period.  It is a first hand look of what the situation really looked like.

Both of these books are full and complete and represent incredible detail to the War for independence.

Pictured above is the schooner, Alliance, sailing the York River.  In the background is Gloucester, Virginia.  This shot was taken from the yorktown beach.  The area where the Battle of Yorktown was fought and American Independence won.

The above is a picture of one of the types of canon found on the ships during this war.  This canon is from the Kalmar Nyckel, taken while docked in Yorktown.

This picture gives you a real world idea of what fortifications actually looked like and how they were used.  If you were charging towards these, you had no easy way of penetrating them.

Actual canons used in the American Revolution at Yorktown.  These are on permanent display along with a lot more all over Yorktown.

Tomorrow we have more special surprises prepared for this series.  Stay tuned for more incredible content.

Pre Gloucester, VA History - Jamestown Commodities and Industires

E-Book On Early Jamestown Commodities And Industries" E-Book On Early Jamestown Commodities And Industries from Chuck Thompson

The book above is some pre Gloucester history.  If you have read my previous works on a brief history of Gloucester, Virginia you know that this area was originally part of James Citti.  It later became a part of York County, Virginia and then became it's own county in 1651.  Confusing at first, but not that bad.  It's explained in the e-book.  Want a copy of this book?  We are giving away free downloads of it right here.  In the event you have issues with trying to figure out how to download the file, we have a site with all the information on it linked above under Additional Resources or https://sites.google.com/site/gloucesterresources/download-info  this link is the direct link to that page.

Bill Gates Owner Of 220ft White Cloud Ship?

Story by Chuck Thompson for GVLN.  http://wwww.GloucesterCounty-VA.com

Is Bill Gates the owner of the 220ft White Cloud ship?  69th largest private ship in the world.  Make no mistake about it.  This ship may be a bit older in design, but she is still an incredible beauty.  Just look at how she dwarfs all the other boats around her.  And yes, that is a real full size helicopter on the back deck.  For years everyone has been trying to learn who the owner of this ship is.  All of the information out there confirms that she is American owned.  Attempts to find out who the owner is by the public has not proved successful.

Photos of the White Cloud by;  Chuck Thompson of TTC Media.

Now there are a good number of people who fit the profile in the US to own this ship, however, none fit the profile better than Bill Gates.  He's retired and traveling the world with his wife giving away millions to certain charities.  The White Cloud is seen all over the world docked in some beautiful areas.  We met with some of the staff of the White Cloud and spoke with them.  They are well trained never to reveal the ownership of this boat.

The pictures of the White Cloud above were taken in Yorktown, Virginia back in 2010.  Post below in the comments section and let us know where you have seen the White Cloud ship.  She makes an incredible impact wherever she goes.

GVLN - VA State Police Spy Cameras

Gloucester VA Links and News

GVLN
- VA State Police Spy Cameras

Well you really can not call them spy cameras, but it is big brother watching in the newest ways. We spotted this VA State Police vehicle in Yorktown and took some pictures of the new equipment.

With the first picture, we can see a set of cameras on the back end of the vehicle.  Notice how they are angled out and downwards. These cameras read your license plate as you drive by or they drive by you. The camera sends the information onto the computers in the vehicles and then feeds the information into a main database and checks background information. If you have any outstanding tickets or possibly a warrant for your arrest? Your busted. The speed on the transfer is pretty fast in most cases.

Here is a closeup view of the side and back of one of the cameras. All one of the police officers has to do these days is drive through a parking lot and they can scan every vehicle amazingly fast. It's no longer a guessing game. No one has to call in for plate information. The information to the police officer is near instant.
This is a front view of the camera. Again these are mounted on each side of the rear of the vehicle on both sides. The police officer does not have to drive up and down a lane twice to read all the plates on the lot.
Inspection overdue? They got you. Outstanding ticket somewhere?  Your busted. Late on child support? Could find yourself in a lot of trouble the moment you walk out of a store or even just drive down
the road.

Stolen plates? Your done for. Now these are not on all of the vehicles yet, but it's coming. The state police are the first to have these, but it's only a matter of time before all the locals have them as well. What is next? Face recognition technology. Cameras will scan your face and you could be identified through a central database.  Issues with that and legal nightmare cases that will come from the technology when it gets launched will be a outrageous. The high level of mis-identifications will not be pleasant.

As police cars become more high tech, the costs for each car is becoming ridiculous. The cameras on the car above are not cheap, plus they have to be configured with custom software and then there is the central data base that covers all 50 states. We have no idea at this time if these cameras are using the regular police computer laptops in the cars or if they have a special computer they have to go through.

Uncle Sam Wants You

We met Uncle Sam over at the Yorktown Memorial Day Service on May 25th, 2009. His message is that he wants you in the US Military. A part of living history done right by the people of Historic Yorktown.

21 Gun Salute followed by Taps at Yorktown on Memorial Day, May 25th, 2009

The Yorktown Memorial Day service was well planned out. Men and woman dressed in uniforms of past wars of our nation to honor fallen soldiers, the 21 gun salute by the various costumed men and the taps by a Civil War soldier were well done.
