RICHMOND - Governor Bob McDonnell today urged Virginians to join in the effort to help the people of the Philippines as they recover from devastating Typhoon Haiyan. The storm has left thousands dead, and the Philippine government has reported that some 2 million residents are now in need of aid.

Speaking about the storm and its aftermath, Governor McDonnell noted, “The people of the Philippines need our help in the wake of this horrific typhoon. As we watch the saddening news reports come in, I know many are wondering how to help the millions who are suffering. Today I’m encouraging my fellow Virginians to donate funds to the Philippine Red Cross, the American Red Cross, or UNICEF so those three organizations can continue providing the food, medicine, and relief that is so desperately needed in the region. Virginia is home to a large Filipino-American population that has done so much to contribute to the prosperity and greatness of our Commonwealth. Now, the people of the Philippines need our help as they recover from deadly and tragic Typhoon Haiyan. Americans are a giving and caring people. We are at our best when times are at their worst. Now, I hope Virginians will once again show their generosity and empathy and join in this relief effort. Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with our friends in the Philippines.”

There are many aid organizations working in storm-recovery efforts. Three of the biggest are the Philippine Red Cross, the American Red Cross, and UNICEF. Virginians can donate to the organizations by visiting their web sites, which are listed below.

Common Insecticides May Be Linked to Kids' Behavior Problems

By Dr. Mercola
Organophosphate pesticides are known for their hazards to human health. Prenatal exposure, for example, has been linked to delayed brain development, reduced IQ, and attention deficits1.
As a result, pyrethroids2—synthetic chemicals derived from natural chemicals found in chrysanthemums—have risen in popularity over the past decade.  There are currently more than 3,500 commercial products containing this insecticide. This includes items like roach sprays, flea bombs, and dog flea or tick collars and medicated shampoos.
Pyrethroids are well-known to be highly toxic to cats, and the most frequent reason for pyrethroid poisoning in cats is the incorrect and unadvised application of dog flea or tick medication.
You can identify pyrethroids in any given product by reading the label. Compounds that end in “thrin,” such as bifenthrin, permethrin and cypermethrin, are all pyrethroids. Alas, switching to pyrethroids may not have been the wisest move. Animal studies suggest it causes neurological-, immune-, and reproductive damage. And, as usual, the human health effects are still largely unknown, despite its widespread use.
Now, Canadian research suggests pyrethroids may be associated with behavior problems in children.  As reported by Scientific American3:
“The findings raise some questions about the safety of the compounds, which have replaced other insecticides with known risks to children’s brain development.
Exposure to pyrethroids, which kill insects by interfering with their nervous systems, is widespread because they are used inside homes and schools, in municipal mosquito control and on farms.”

Common Insecticide May have Adverse Effects on Your Child’s Development

The study4 in question tested urine samples from 779 Canadian children, aged 6-11, and the parents answered questions relating to their child’s behavior. Shockingly, even at that tender young age, 97 percent of the children had pyrethroid breakdown products in their urine. Ninety-one percent also had traces of organophosphate pesticides.
“A 10-fold increase in urinary levels of one pyrethroid breakdown product, cis-DCCA, was associated with a doubling in the odds of a child scoring high for parent-reported behavioral problems, such as inattention and hyperactivity,” the featured article reports.
A previous study found that toddlers who had been exposed to pyrethroids while in utero had lower development scores compared to unexposed children. According to a 2006 EPA review, animal research has also shown that even low levels of some of these compounds have an adverse effect on5:
Immune functionNervous system developmentBehavioral development
ThyroidLiverReproductive hormones

Some pyrethroids act as endocrine disruptors by mimicking estrogen. Such hormone-disrupting chemicals can raise your levels of estrogen, thereby promoting the growth of estrogen-sensitive cancers such as breast cancer.
As stated by Dana Boyd Barr, a research professor of environmental health at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta6:  “Pyrethroids are obviously a safer alternative to organophosphates, but just because they are safer doesn’t mean they are safe.”

Are You Using this Toxic Bug Spray On or Near Your Kids?

Permethrin—a member of the synthetic pyrethroid family—can also be found in many commercial bug sprays. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), permethrin is carcinogenic7, capable of causing lung tumors, liver tumors, immune system problems, and chromosomal abnormalities. Permethrin is also damaging to the environment, and it is particularly toxic to bees and aquatic life.
Despite that, approximately 2 million pounds of permethrin are applied to agricultural, residential and public sites each year. The majority, about 70 percent, is applied in non-agricultural settings; more than 40 percent of it is applied by homeowners in residential areas, so there’s plenty of room for individuals to take personal control over this chemical exposure.
While it may be tempting to douse your kids with bug spray in order to prevent bugs from biting them, there are plenty of other tricks that can keep bugs at bay that don't involve the application of neurotoxic and potentially carcinogenic chemicals.

Simple Preventative Measures to Avoid Mosquito Bites

Mosquito’s are probably the most pervasive when it comes to biting bugs. You can avoid most assaults by staying inside around dawn and dusk, which is when they are most active. If you must be out during those times, wear light-colored, long sleeved shirts and long pants, hats and socks.
Mosquitoes are also thicker in shrubby areas and near standing water. Body temperature and skin chemicals like lactic acid also attract mosquitoes, so trying to stay as cool and dry as possible may also help to some degree.
The American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) has a helpful factsheet8 of things you can do to prevent mosquito breeding on your property. The Three D’s of protection from mosquitoes are:
  1. Drain—Mosquitoes require water in which to breed, so carefully drain any and all sources of standing water around your house and yard, including pet bowls, gutters, garbage- and recycling bins, spare tires, bird baths and so on
  2. Dress—Light colored, loose fitting clothing offer the greatest protection
  3. Defend—Again, I recommend avoiding most chemical repellents, especially those containing DEET or permethrin. (The Environmental Working Group (EWG) recently released an extensive review of bug repellants, and virtually all of them are associated with health hazards9.) Instead, try some of the natural alternatives suggested in this article

Besides draining all sources of standing water and dressing appropriately, the following ideas can help reduce the mosquito population around your yard:
  • Add some bat boxes: Bat houses are becoming increasingly popular since bats are voracious consumers of insects, especially mosquitoes. For more on buying a bat house or constructing one yourself, visit the Organization for Bat Conservation10.
  • Plant marigolds: Planting marigolds around your yard works as a bug repellent because the flowers give off a fragrance that bugs do not like. This is a great way to ward off mosquitoes without using chemical insecticides.
  • Blow ‘em away... As a last minute fix, a simple house fan can help keep mosquitoes at bay if you’re having a get-together in your backyard.

DIY Bug Repellants

Your diet may have something to do with your popularity with the mosquitoes. To reduce your attractiveness, you may want to forgo bananas during mosquito season. According to alternative health nutritionist Dr. Janet Starr Hull11, “there’s something about how your body processes the banana oil that attracts these female sugar-loving insects.” She also recommends supplementing with one vitamin B-1 tablet a day from April through October, and then adding 100 mg of B-1 to a B-100 Complex daily during the mosquito season to make you less attractive to mosquitoes.
Regularly consuming garlic or garlic capsules may also help protect against both mosquito and tick bites. Bear in mind, the best way to avoid ticks is to make sure you tuck your pants into your socks and wear closed shoes and a hat—especially if venturing out into wooded areas. You can also make your own mosquito repellent using any of the following:
  • Cinnamon leaf oil (one study found it was more effective at killing mosquitoes than DEET)
  • Clear liquid vanilla extract mixed with olive oil
  • Wash with citronella soap, and then put some 100% pure citronella essential oil on your skin. Java Citronella is considered the highest quality citronella on the market
  • Catnip oil (according to one study, this oil is 10 times more effective than DEET12)
Another option is to use the safe solution I formulated to repel mosquitoes, fleas, chiggers, ticks, and other biting insects. It's anatural insect repellant with a combination of citronella, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil, and vanillin. An independent study showed it was more effective than a product containing 100 percent DEET. And it's safe for you, your children, and your pets.

Safer Alternatives for Ant, Roach, Lice and Flea Control

With mosquito control out of the way, what about other pesky bugs? Not to worry, there are safer alternatives for most infestations. For example:
  • Knock out roaches, ants and termites with boric acid powder. Sprinkle some in the inner corners of your cabinets and in the corners under your cabinets. Pests will carry it back to their nests on their feet and kill the remainder of the infestation. Boric acid is generally non-toxic for animals, but you’d still be well-advised to place it in areas where your pet will not ingest or inhale it, as it kills bugs by causing dehydration.
  • Treat head lice with an old-fashioned nit comb and essential oils of anise and ylang ylang, combined into a spray. This has been found to be highly effective in eliminating over 90 percent of head lice.
  • Control your pet’s fleas and ticks with safe, natural pest repellents, such as:
    • Cedar oil
    • Natural, food-grade diatomaceous earth
    • Fresh garlic -- work with your holistic vet to determine a safe amount for your pet’s body weight
    • Feeding your pet a balanced, species-appropriate diet. The healthier your dog or cat is, the less appealing she’ll be to parasites. A biologically appropriate diet supports a strong immune system.
    • Bathing and brushing your pet regularly and performing frequent full-body inspections to check for parasite activity.

Anti Federalist Papers No. 27 – The Use Of Coercion By The New Government (Part 2)

"JOHN HUMBLE's," following piece was published in the Independent Gazetteer, October 29, 1787.

The humble address of the low-born of the United States of America, to their fellow slaves scattered throughout the world - greeting:
Whereas it hath been represented unto us that a most dreadful disease hath for these five years last past infected, preyed upon and almost ruined the government and people of this our country; and of this malady we ourselves have had perfect demonstration, not mentally, but bodily, through every one of the five senses. For although our sensations in regard to the mind be not just so nice as those of the well born, yet our feeling, through the medium of the plow, the hoe and the grubbing ax, is as acute as any nobleman's in the world. And, whereas, a number of skillful physicians having met together at Philadelphia last summer, for the purpose of exploring, and, if possible, removing the cause of this direful disease, have, through the assistance of John Adams, Esq., in the profundity of their great political knowledge, found out and discovered that nothing but a new government, consisting of three different branches, namely, king, lords, and commons or, in the American language, President, Senate and Representatives - can save this, our country, from inevitable destruction. And, whereas, it has been reported that several of our low-born brethren have had the horrid audacity to think for themselves in regard to this new system of government, and, dreadful thought! have wickedly begun to doubt concerning the perfection of this evangelical constitution, which our political doctors have declared to be a panacea, which (by inspiration) they know will infallibly heal every distemper in the confederation, and finally terminate in the salvation of America.

Now we the low born, that is, all the people of the United States, except 600 thereabouts, well born, do by this our humble address, declare and most solemnly engage, that we will allow and admit the said 600 well born, immediately to establish and confirm this most noble, most excellent and truly divine constitution. And we further declare that without any equivocation or mental reservation whatever we will support and maintain the same according to the best of our power, and after the manner and custom of all other slaves in foreign countries, namely by the sweat and toil of our body. Nor will we at any future period of time ever attempt to complain of this our royal government, let the consequences be what they may.

And although it appears to us that a standing army, composed of the purgings of the jails of Great Britain, Ireland and Germany, shall be employed in collecting the revenues of this our king and government, yet, we again in the most solemn manner declare, that we will abide by our present determination of non-resistance and passive obedience - so that we shall not dare to molest or disturb those military gentlemen in the service of our royal government. And (which is not improbable) should any one of those soldiers when employed on duty in collecting the taxes, strike off the arm (with his sword) of one of our fellow slaves, we will conceive our case remarkably fortunate if he leaves the other arm on. And moreover, because we are aware that many of our fellow slaves shall be unable to pay their taxes, and this incapacity of theirs is a just cause of impeachment of treason; wherefore in such cases we will use our utmost endeavors, in conjunction with the standing army, to bring such atrocious offenders before our federal judges, who shall have power, without jury or trial, to order the said miscreants for immediate execution; nor will we think their sentence severe unless after being hanged they are also to be both beheaded and quartered. And finally we shall henceforth and forever leave all power, authority and dominion over our persons and properties in the hands of the well born, who were designed by Providence to govern. And in regard to the liberty of the press, we renounce all claim to it forever more, Amen; and we shall in future be perfectly contented if our tongues be left us to lick the feet of our well born masters.

Done on behalf of three millions of low-born American slaves.

Board of Supervisors Rulers of Gloucester County?

Christmas Rainbow - By Chuck Thompson of TTC Media
Open Letter to the Citizens of Gloucester County Virginia

“For the Common Good. “

"The Land of the Life Worth Living?"  Not if you continue to have a total disregard for the law and the people of Gloucester County.  I watched the BoS meeting last week and the Board continues to show a total disregard for the Rule of Law and the people in the county.

The Virginia Constitution was written for us to limit the government intrusion into our lives.  Have you ever read the Constitution of the United States?  How about the Constitution of Virginia? You know when Ted the Court Jester, County Attorney read the proposed replacement ordinance did you not see his pants on fire? Or his nose growing?  When he adds words that are not in the Code of Virginia that means it is not in compliance with Virginia Law we know this.  Mr. Wilmot does not do a good job talking when he is not telling the truth, why do you keep making him lie for the County?  Or are you not smart enough to know he is not telling the truth?  You need to put the muzzle back on the County Jester.  He did not help your cause during the meeting!

Changing the Ordinance and getting the citizens of Gloucester to pay for guns for retiring Animal Control? Where in the Code of Virginia is this allowed since they are not law enforcement!  Let them buy their own guns!  Let retiring Deputies buy their own guns also if they retire and not meet the requirements of Virginia Code.  Also raising the taxes of the citizens to give the judges anything they want? Watch the meeting on Mr. Thompson’s blog and see this. You do think our money belongs to the County?  I was glad to see some backbone being shown but this contempt for the rule of law needs to stop.

Is this board trying to go out as the most corrupt Board in the History of the County?  What a legacy you leave.  You do not deserve to be recognized for your service.  You may have started out with good intentions, and we all know the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but you have gone downhill from there.

I am not a lawyer and cannot give legal advice.  Our founding fathers used common sense and Christian scripture when establishing our founding documents.

“For the Common Good. “

Sincerely,
Alexander James Jay

P.S.  "The time to guard against corruption and tyranny, is before they shall have gotten hold on us. It is better to keep the wolf out of the fold, than to trust to drawing his teeth and talons after he shall have entered." --Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 13, 1781

Gloucester, VA Board of Supervisors Meeting Video Nov. 2013

We are running late putting up a copy of this video as we took the week off for meetings and some rather deep investigations.  This particular BoS meeting is rather short compared to many in the past.  It has it's laughs however.  Twitching Ted, (I'm not an attorney), Wilmot, court jester was allowed to speak in this meeting.  Of course he was presenting a new ordinance that seems to be in clear violations of the Dillon rule, hence state code, so even though he has learned to control his hands better than in the past, his facial twitches and deep swallows were still evident that he was less than comfortable with his presentation of the ordinance choices he drafted.  As we keep saying, if you have to go up against an attorney, this is the guy you want to go up against.  You can easily read him like a book.   Sorry Ted, you are still not ready for the prime time players.

You can also catch a good laugh as both Hutson and Theberge try to force the private chambers for the judge's personal cars down the taxpayers throats.  Kudos to Chrisco for not allowing it and forcing it over to CPI where it belongs.

The big question we still have is why is this board trying to go out with passing yet further ordinances that in every way appear as such blatant violations to state code?  Are they trying to go out with maximum damage to the taxpayers?  Be sure to thank them for all the money they have taken out of your pocket for years to come.  If we continue to see this kind of garbage, Gloucester will get renamed Tumbleweed county as everyone flocks to leave because of the ridiculous taxes and lack of return on investments from those higher taxes.

In our opinion, Gloucester is still a prefered place to live on our list with only a handful of places throughout the state that also include a few minor hidden sections around Williamsburg, James City County and York County and maybe a few choice areas around Charles City county and New Kent County, otherwise the rest of the state has fun places to play, but not to live.  The rest of the list for us is short on a national level and only includes minor selections in PA, Florida and Georgia.  Everywhere else we have been are just not our cup of tea.  Sure there are a lot of great places throughout the nation to play in, but living there, no thanks.

Gloucester has key amenities in place in select sections of the county and is sustainable for a gated bedroom community.  It is not self sustaining and if it were made to be self sustaining, then it would be lost as a prefered location as it would become overpopulated with numerous undesirable elements.  Is anyone looking for an extension of Newport News here or Williamsburg for that matter?

Controlled growth is needed, but it must be smart and not at tremendous costs to the taxpayers and for the benefit of the few within the county.  The county right now is very blessed with tremendous talent.  A talent that needs to be taken advantage of for the good of the county overall and not abused by the county.  It is our sincere hope that the new Board of Supervisors will be bringing the proper mix of talent and dedication to clean up the mess that is being left to them and that the present board members follow the new lead coming in.  We are also hoping that the new board members resist the Rotary club indoctrinations as well, but there is no way to know that right off.  Time will tell.
