Governor Orders State Flags to Fly at Half-Staff Friday and Saturday

WASHINGTON D.C.- Governor Bob McDonnell issued the following statement this morning regarding news that former Virginia Senator Harry F. Byrd, Jr., America’s oldest living former senator, has passed away at 98 at his home in Winchester. In addition, the governor has ordered all state flags to fly at half-staff Friday and Saturday in memory of the senator.

“This morning, Harry F. Byrd, Jr., America’s oldest living former senator, passed away at his home in Winchester. This is a sad day in the Commonwealth. A chapter of our history has concluded; we’ve lost a good and decent person and a dedicated public servant.

Senator Byrd was a son of the Valley. He was born in Winchester. While he would go on to attend school at VMI and UVa, serve our nation in World War II, represent the area in the State Senate, and then serve three terms in Washington as a United States Senator, it was always true that in spirit and in soul, Harry F. Byrd, Jr. never left the Valley that he loved.
Senator Byrd was an iconic figure in Virginia history. He lived through a century of immense change, both here at home and abroad, and he never sat on the sidelines. From his time in public office to his long career in journalism, Harry F. Byrd, Jr. was at the center of the great debates and policy discussions that marked our nation’s path forward. He made his mark as a strong fiscal conservative, always committed to ensuring that taxpayer dollars be wisely and conservatively utilized.

I had the great opportunity to visit with the senator several times over the past few years at his home. His mind was sharp, and he was quick with stories from growing up in Virginia’s Executive Mansion in the 1920’s to his experiences as the first person ever elected and re-elected to the United States Senate as an independent. The senator was rightly known for his civility, candor and wit, and those attributes remained with him until the very end. As governor, there were a number of times I would receive a carefully handwritten letter from the senator, well into his 90’s, letting me know how he felt about legislation and policy discussions in Richmond. He lived to participate in the public discourse and he cherished democracy and civic engagement. That was the common thread that ran from his time in public office to his editorials and columns in The Winchester Star and The Harrisonburg Daily News-Record.

Virginia will mourn the passing of Senator Harry F. Byrd, Jr.”

Failure of the Gloucester County Leadership?

Open Letter to the Citizens of Gloucester County Virginia.

Once again, I planned to return to the State Constitution today; however, reading several of Mr Thompson’s stories over the weekend I must deviate from my plan.  I read with great sorrow the events Mr. Thompson reported; based on these event am even more convinced the Board of Supervisors should vote no on the school bond until many changes are made in the county.

The question that everyone needs to ask is why the employees were using the vehicles for personal use?  Was it learned from watching their bosses and other supervisors? Why have the management and supervisors allowed it to go on? No one in the county employment has ever seen them do this before and reported it?  Why did the employee in one truck chase a vehicle, did they know they were doing something wrong? Why did the other employee go to the Hardee's at the southern end of the county for a second meal rather than the one closer to the court house?

It appears county management has taught them by example.  Has this been going on for years?  It needs to stop.  The county wants to constantly raise our taxes; until they get their house in order no new taxes.

You are now asking what does it have to do with the school board and the new school? It goes back to what these people learned in school?  I have talked to a number of students over the years living in this county and what they are learning is disturbing. They are learning that they are owed by the generation before them; they do not have to work hard to earn for themselves.  Look at the condition of the county, commonwealth, and country, it shows.  They want top salary jobs and want to be the boss when they come out of school.  Do the students come out of school see their bosses go to Hardee’s in county vehicles and repeat what they see?

I have some other questions for the School Board and Board of Supervisors.  A video on Mr. Thompson’s website from the School Board shows TC Walker being made into a new office complex for county employees.  Is it for school use or county use?  Why is additional space needed are you in the process of growing the government larger?  Then why the new space?  The School Board should have offices in each of the schools so they have firsthand knowledge of what is being taught, what the teacher deal with on a daily basis, and how the students are being treated.  You do not need an ivory tower to isolate yourselves from the students, parents, and teacher.

Until the County shows leadership and can control its employees and the School Board show it is capable of teaching ALL students to be good citizens prepared to live in Gloucester County, Virginia, and the United States as productive adults they should not be given any additional money.

Tell the Board no new Monument to Stupidity; you do not support them going forward with the bond.  I am not a lawyer, but have questions that are not being answered.

 “For the Common Good. “

Sincerely,

Alexander James Jay

County Attorney To Prosecute County Employees For Abuse?

Will Gloucester County Attorney, Twitching Ted, (I'm Not An Attorney), Wilmot, the court jester, prosecute the local employee's recently seen violating Virginia code?  All the government trucks seen at the windows and parking lot's of Hardee's restaurant drive through windows?

As an officer of the courts, it would seem as though Twitching Ted would have a duty to file charges against these folks and see to full prosecution against them.  After all, isn't it his job to protect the county and protect against waste, fraud and abuse?  How could he personally ignore this?  If he does not do this, is he violating his own office?

These are tough questions we have to ask.  After all, as a county resident, it would seem that he also has an interest in ensuring that his tax dollars are not being wasted.  That would only seem fair, no?

Send Twitch an email and ask him what his intentions are;

ewilmot@gloucesterva.info

It would not be right for him not to go after this.  If it were not for Hardee's, some Gloucester County government employee's would never eat.

Roundup and Glyphosate Toxicity Have Been Grossly Underestimated

By Dr. Mercola
The true toxicity of glyphosate—the active ingredient in Monsanto’s broad-spectrum herbicide Roundup—is becoming increasingly clear as study after study is published demonstrating its devastating effects. In June, groundbreaking research was published detailing a newfound mechanism of harm for Roundup.
This was immediately followed by tests showing that people in 18 countries across Europe have glyphosate in their bodies,1 while yet another study revealed that the chemical has estrogenic properties and drives breast cancer proliferation in the parts-per-trillion range.2
This finding might help explain why rats fed Monsanto’s maize developed massive breast tumors in the first-ever lifetime feeding study published last year. Other recently published studies demonstrate glyphosate’s toxicity to cell lines, aquatic life, food animals, and humans.

Glyphosate Toxicity Underestimated, Study Concludes

One such study, published in the journal Ecotoxicology,3 found that glyphosate is toxic to water fleas (Daphnia magna) at minuscule levels that are well within the levels expected to be found in the environment.
According to regulators, glyphosate is thought to be practically nontoxic to aquatic invertebrates. The water flea is a widely accepted model for environmental toxicity, so this study throws serious doubt on glyphosate’s classification as environmentally safe. According to the study:
“To test the acute effects of both glyphosate and a commercial formulation of Roundup (hereafter Roundup), we conducted a series of exposure experiments with different clones and age-classes of D. magna.... Roundup showed slightly lower acute toxicity than glyphosate IPA alone... However, in chronic toxicity tests spanning the whole life-cycle, Roundup was more toxic.
...Significant reduction of juvenile size was observed even in the lowest test concentrations of 0.05 mg a.i./l, for both glyphosate and Roundup. At 0.45 mg a.i./l, growth, fecundity and abortion rate was affected, but only in animals exposed to Roundup.
At 1.35 and 4.05 mg a.i./l of both glyphosate and Roundup, significant negative effects were seen on most tested parameters, including mortality. D. magna was adversely affected by a near 100% abortion rate of eggs and embryonic stages at 1.35 mg a.i./l of Roundup.
The results indicate that aquatic invertebrate ecology can be adversely affected by relevant ambient concentrations of this major herbicide. We conclude that glyphosate and Roundup toxicity to aquatic invertebrates have been underestimated and that current European Commission and US EPA toxicity classification of these chemicals need to be revised.”

Herbicide Formulations Far More Toxic Than Glyphosate Alone

An article published on Greenmedinfo.com4 last year reviewed several interesting studies relating to the profound toxicity of Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup:
“Back in Feb. of 2012, the journal Archives of Toxicology5 published a shocking study showing that Roundup is toxic to human DNA even when diluted to concentrations 450-fold lower than used in agricultural applications.
This effect could not have been anticipated from the known toxicological effects of glyphosate alone. The likely explanation is that the surfactant polyoxyethyleneamine within Roundup dramatically enhances the absorption of glyphosate into exposed human cells and tissue,” Sayer Ji writes.
“If this is true, it speaks to a fundamental problem associated with toxicological risk assessments of agrichemicals (and novel manmade chemicals in general), namely, these assessments do not take into account the reality of synergistic toxicologies, i.e. the amplification of harm associated with multiple chemical exposures occurring simultaneously.”

'Inert' Ingredients Does NOT Mean They Are Inactive...

Similarly, another study published that year in the journal Toxicology67 revealed that inert ingredients such as solvents, preservatives, surfactants and other added substances are anything but “inactive.” They in fact contribute to toxicity in a synergistic manner, and ethoxylated adjuvants in glyphosate-based herbicides were found to be "active principles of human cell toxicity."
(On a side note, an “ethoxylated” compound is a chemical that has been produced using the carcinogen ethylene oxide.8 The ethoxylation process also produces the carcinogenic byproduct 1,4-dioxane. It’s also worth noting here that the term “inert ingredient” does NOT actually mean that it is biologically or toxicologically harmless! When you see “inert” or “inactive ingredients” listed on the label of a pesticide or herbicide, it only means that those ingredients will not harm pests or weeds. This is how federal law classifies “inert” pesticide ingredients.)9
The study found that liver, embryonic and placental cell lines exposed to various herbicide formulations for 24 hours at doses as low as 1 part per million (ppm), had adverse effects.10 According to the authors:11
“Here we demonstrate that all formulations are more toxic than glyphosate, and we separated experimentally three groups of formulations differentially toxic according to their concentrations in ethoxylated adjuvants. Among them, POE-15 clearly appears to be the most toxic principle against human cells, even if others are not excluded. It begins to be active with negative dose-dependent effects on cellular respiration and membrane integrity between 1 and 3ppm, at environmental/occupational doses. We demonstrate in addition that POE-15 induces necrosis when its first micellization process occurs, by contrast to glyphosate which is known to promote endocrine disrupting effects after entering cells.
Altogether, these results challenge the establishment of guidance values such as the acceptable daily intake of glyphosate, when these are mostly based on a long term in vivo test of glyphosate alone. Since pesticides are always used with adjuvants that could change their toxicity, the necessity to assess their whole formulations as mixtures becomes obvious. This challenges the concept of active principle of pesticides for non-target species.” [Emphasis mine]
Perhaps most disturbing of all, the researchers claim that cell damage and even cell death can occur at the residual levels found on Roundup-treated crops, as well as lawns and gardens where Roundup is applied for weed control. They also suspect that:12
“Roundup might cause pregnancy problems by interfering with hormone production, possibly leading to abnormal fetal development, low birth weights or miscarriages.”

Chicken Tamales - Recipe of the day

Soak some trimmed corn husk (bought in Mexican stores) for several hours in cold water, then boil until soft, remove; dry on cloth, and rub with lard. Cut up a fat chicken, cook until very tender in just enough water to leave about four cups. Chop up cooked chicken, add corn meal or masa to boiling hot chicken broth until a thick dough; add salt to taste, one tablespoon chile powder, or chile sauce No. 1; add tablespoon of lard and knead all together until light and smooth. Now to all the chicken add enough chile sauce No. 1 to mix thickly together; add about one-fourth cup of sliced olives and a few whole ones and one-fourth cup seedless raisins, and a few whole ones, salt to taste and cook together for five minutes; spread corn dough evenly over shuck or husk about one-eighth inch thick. In center of one larger husk place a large kitchen spoonful of chicken; spread over this one tablespoonful of dough; place another husk spread with dough; continue placing husk around on all sides until about ten are used. Tie ends together with a strip of husk and place on end in a colander over boiling water for two or three hours, or place some corn husk in bottom of vessel, pile tamales on top, pour in about a quart of water, bring to a boil and steam slowly for three or four hours.

Authentic Mexican Recipes;  Make something extraordinary tonight.

Report Waste, Fraud and Abuse - Gloucester Government Employees

Here is what Virginia code says about the events we have been reporting about on both Friday and yesterday, July 29th, 2013.  Gloucester County government employees look like they are in very clear violation of state code.  We are going to help out our local officials by sending them copies of this code along with information on the Virginia WFA hotline so that we no longer have to go through having our tax dollars wasted.

Seeing a county government vehicle at a fastfood restaurant is personal use of a government vehicle.  According to state code, from what we see, this is a very serious offense.

It's your tax dollars being wasted by county government employees.

This shows that county government officials have no control over their employees as we have had numerous reports of these abuses all within a few short days.  These are the same officials that want more tax money and want a 17 million dollar bond to build a school that is not needed.  When we looked over how they are going about obtaining that bond, we have some very serious questions there as well.  Those questions are on this site.

Here is how to report waste, fraud and abuse by government employees.  If you see any issues, remember, they are wasting your tax dollars taking money out of your pocket and everyone elses.  Local county government employees can also report on other county employees and even their bosses.  Waste, Fraud and Abuse is a rampant problem which is why this department at the state level had to be created.  Allowing Gloucester County government employees to continue this abuse is not in anyone's best interest.

Tell your officials they need to clean up their acts.  Let them know that they will not get one more dollar in new taxes until they can show they can handle their own employees.

In another few days we will be letting you know what to expect from the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors in the upcoming public bond hearing meeting.  We know exactly what they are going to do and we will tell you what to expect.

Keep sending us those pictures of Gloucester government employees abusing the system.  We will keep sending them to Gloucester officials to let them know that the citizens of the county are not happy about this.
