Federalist Papers No. 9 The Union As A Safeguard Against Faction And Insurrection

A FIRM Union will be of the utmost moment to the peace and liberty of the States, as a barrier against domestic faction and insurrection. It is impossible to read the history of the petty republics of Greece and Italy without feeling sensations of horror and disgust at the distractions with which they were continually agitated, and at the rapid succession of revolutions by which they were kept in a state of perpetual vibration between the extremes of tyranny and anarchy. If they exhibit occasional calms, these only serve as short-lived contrast to the furious storms that are to succeed. If now and then intervals of felicity open to view, we behold them with a mixture of regret, arising from the reflection that the pleasing scenes before us are soon to be overwhelmed by the tempestuous waves of sedition and party rage. If momentary rays of glory break forth from the gloom, while they dazzle us with a transient and fleeting brilliancy, they at the same time admonish us to lament that the vices of government should pervert the direction and tarnish the lustre of those bright talents and exalted endowments for which the favored soils that produced them have been so justly celebrated.

Connecting The Dots of Gloucester Officials Corruption?

Yesterday we showed you how the shell game is played and how it has been played against the taxpayers of the county. Today we are going to connect some dots that we have shown before. Above is a screen shot that shows the board of directors for the Gloucester Main Street Preservation Trust and board members. Here is what you want to look at. Louise Theberge is a board member. Same Louise Theberge that is the chairperson for the Gloucester County, Virginia Board of Supervisors. Now note who the chairman is for the board of the Gloucester Main Street Preservation Trust. Breckenridge Ingles. Guess who owns over one thousand acres of land, located across from the new school being built on a swamp. If you guessed Breckinridge Ingles, you would be correct.

That is over one thousand acres of land with a value of over four million dollars. And now it is across from the new swamp school. Anyone think this is now a good time to start clearing the land and preparing it for site construction of homes and maybe even some commercial properties? Was not a great location if the school were to be built in it's old location. But that is all just coincidence now isn't it? Of course it is. All of these dots being connected are just mere coincidence. Louise Theberge being a board member of the Gloucester Main Street Preservation Trust is just mere coincidence.

The joint projects between Gloucester County government and the Gloucester Main Street Preservation Trust are just mere coincidence. You also have to wonder if it is a fair question to ask if the members of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors have an inside financial incentive to build the new school on the swamp? Shell games and information that no one else will dare cover, right here on Gloucester, Virginia Links and News. You have to ask a lot of questions about what is really going on around you.

I publish these essays at the present time for a particular reason connected with the present situation; a reason which I should like briefly to emphasise and make clear.

Though most of the conclusions, especially towards the end, are conceived with reference to recent events, the actual bulk of preliminary notes about the science of Eugenics were written before the war. It was a time when this theme was the topic of the hour; when eugenic babies (not visibly very distinguishable from other babies) sprawled all over the illustrated papers; when the evolutionary fancy of Nietzsche was the new cry among the intellectuals; and when Mr. Bernard Shaw and others were considering the idea that to breed a man like a cart-horse was the true way to attain that higher civilisation, of intellectual magnanimity and sympathetic insight, which may be found in cart-horses. It may therefore appear that I took the opinion too controversially, and it seems to me that I sometimes took it too seriously. But the criticism of Eugenics soon expanded of itself into a more general criticism of a modern craze for scientific officialism and strict social organisation.

And then the hour came when I felt, not without relief, that I might well fling all my notes into the fire. The fire was a very big one, and was burning up bigger things than such pedantic quackeries. And, anyhow, the issue itself was being settled in a very different style. Scientific officialism and organisation in the State which had specialised in them, had gone to war with the older culture of Christendom. Either Prussianism would win and the protest would be hopeless, or Prussianism would lose and the protest would be needless. As the war advanced from poison gas to piracy against neutrals, it grew more and more plain that the scientifically organised State was not increasing in popularity. Whatever happened, no Englishmen would ever again go nosing round the stinks of that low laboratory. So I thought all I had written irrelevant, and put it out of my mind.

I am greatly grieved to say that it is not irrelevant. It has gradually grown apparent, to my astounded gaze, that the ruling classes in England are still proceeding on the assumption that Prussia is a pattern for the whole world. If parts of my book are nearly nine years old, most of their principles and proceedings are a great deal older. They can offer us nothing but the same stuffy science, the same bullying bureaucracy and the same terrorism by tenth-rate professors that have led the German Empire to its recent conspicuous triumph. For that reason, three years after the war with Prussia, I collect and publish these papers.
